UPDATE - Goatboy has changed the code to allow you to disable the Dynamic Menus.  Fixed my machine.

------------------------
Ugh.  I'm on cable modem, so it's not that.  My CPU is a little slow, but....

This new format is SLOW.  I get most of the page coming in, then a 10 second delay until the rest comes in.  In the meantime, I can't scroll, can't click, can't anything.

At least the old format you could click a thread, scroll, etc... before the whole page came it.

Very tedious to even scan the boards now.  It's not even worth clicking 99% of the threads to check them out, since it's a 1 minute process to check a thread and get back to where you started.

I am experiencing very similar symptoms, and it is quite frustrating.
I have a cable modem, and a fast computer, yet the board is VERY slow to load, and when it finally does, I am frozen out of clicking or scrolling for 10-15 seconds.

Goatboy, what gives????

If you're on cable modem, I am assuming you are with @home or roadrunner. If you are with @home; Do not use their browser. This causes problems with various boards not just this one. Use IE or Netscape instead.

I'm on @home and the browser provided is IE.  Is it modified?  If so, can I simply download IE and upgrade?

Hey Guys, Just because you're on a cable modem doesn't mean you won't have slowness issues.  There are latency problems with cable modems that are just part of the protocol, and cable modems are also shared pipes.  All of your neighbors are using the same bandwidth that you do, so if you're browsing during peak hours things will be slow.  You're problems were there before, you just didn't notice them until the more robust site was launched.

I'm lucky if I can dial up @ 36k!  Most of the time it is around 26,400.  I've noticed a slow down in the board as well.  I'm using IE5.5 but Perhaps my problem is all of the new graphics.

Im having the same kinds of problems here too, Im on DSL and using IE 5.5. This site has slowed considerably for me, for example: I just clicked to reply to this thread, waited about 30sec went to take a piss, came back and waited about another 30sec before I could start typing. I usually download at about 3meg/min, so before anyone chimes in and wants to tell my how my connection works and that it has always been slow and I just didn't notice it, please think before you reply.

I know that the new graphics can make the pages load slower for some people who do not have a fast internet connection. You must also take into consideration that a LOT of people have been off of work and on the internet during the last couple of days (like darwindog said - bandwidth).

Hey darwindog - you seem have a good understanding of Networking Technology - are you a Network Engineer also?

Again, this is since the new menu header on the page?

--This site was fast as hell before the upgrade and just now it took me 4.5min for this reply page to pop up so I could write this. This is not normal at all. This is now the slowest site I have found that will still load successfully.

What are your cache options set to?

--I cleared the cache trying to fix this problem and it had no effect at all.

Whats your ping to the server? (Try a trace and see if any network troubles getting to it???)

--Haven't done it yet, so Im not sure on this right now.

Need a little help with info to figure this out guys.

--Im walking out the door right now to go pick up a new suppressor, but Ill help you out in any way I can as soon as I get back. You can send me an email with anything you would like for me to check out and Ill let you know the results ASAP.

Slow here also since the change. Yesterday I had delays around 30 seconds. This morning things were a lot faster, but not as fast as before the change. At about 10 am PST it's really slowed down! We're talking minutes now, I've waited over 2 minutes for a page to load. I've been watching the clock and I'd guess what used to take about 5 minutes or less has taken 30 minutes.

I'm on a Mac, IE 5.0 and DSL. Yesterday I followed you advise to clear the cashe but that didn't seem to help. My cashe is set to 50 MB and to update the pages once per session.

Cleared cache (did it a week ago, as well) - no change

Just wanted to throw in that mine has been working fine most of the time.  @home with IE 5.5 and it only seems to be slow in the early evening when this board and everything is pretty busy.  Thanks for all your efforts GB.

I have an extremely clean connection to the web (I am at work and have an appx 90+ mb/sec connection to the internet), and the pages load up rather quickly for me.

With the dynamic menues,  I have not looked at the source page, but have you though about creating a .js file that would be downloaded to the client and then only updated when needed?

Fatman- I had to type these values in, no way to paste from the DOS program (that I have/know of), so it could be a typo.

Still, I ran a couple more and had an average less than the minimum.  Go figure.
