This is for those anti-gun docs in the AMA:
"doctors bury their mistakes!"

After reading this again ..  I have a hard time believing there are 80 million gun owners in the USA and we have only 4 million members in the NRA....  Anyone know if this is true?

This is not meant as a flame etc, just trying to be honest.  How many people that you know who are gun owners that are not NRA members?  Personally I know quite a few, and I have heard all of the excuses, I don't have the money(BS!!!), time(???), I don't want to be put on a list(when you legally buy a handgun in Calif, you're already on Calif DoJ's list.), I don't want to get their money solicitation letters, etc.  Pretty lame, don't you think?

Well, compare that to car owners vs. AAA members. Or old people to AARP members. Or especially Liberal fartheads to HCI members.

Within that perspective, we are doing pretty good.

On the other hand, at $35 / year, compared to what is at stake, it is SHAMEFUL for any patriot to NOT be an NRA member.

FOR THE NRA BASHERS - Yeah, yeah, I know the NRA does not bend to your every whim. But they ARE doing more than YOU are with your whining.

Warlord...

I question that we have that many gun owners in the USA.....  How many guns do we we have ?

Yes, there are all the reasons and excuses in the world not join...  and I am afraid the membership will dwindle again until the next election rolls around...

One thing they taught us at medical school was risk versus benefit. Yes it may be risky to cut open your chest, spread your ribs apart, stop your heart, and sew in a new aortic valve, sure, risky as hell...... However, the benefit is the prevention of death, which, in my book, is a rather unpleasant alternative.  People point to all of the deaths by guns (although they forget that there is a PERSON behind every gun used wrongly), but they conveniently forget all of the lives saved and crimes stopped because of guns. Having a gun in my house is a risk. Risk that my kid or one of her friends finding it and misusing it, for example, is a real one. However, the benefit of having the weapon to use to protect that same kid is also a very real one. I minimize that risk by teaching that kid how to safely handle each and every one of my guns as well as securing my guns when they are not in the immediate control of a responsible person ( my daughter is one of those people by the way!).
The reason I own military style rifles: The day I asked my Mom why my great aunt had numbers tatooed on her right forearm and I got a truthfull answer, I became a firm believer in the 2nd.  Zack
