I have a few light rust spots developing on the front sight assembly of my 16" AR. This happened before I got a safe and a goldenrod. I don't think it has gotten worse, but I would like it all gone. What is the best way to remove rust without hurting the finish?

Also, it looks like there is rust in the barrel of my 20" upper there. I don't know how this is possible considering it has never been fired, and the day I got it I put it in the safe. I have yet to clean  it. I hope it is just some residue from the test firing.

It is always hot and humid in my apartment, Im moving to a different place in August. I was wondering for all of you who live in humid areas, do you have to deal with rust a lot?

I live in Oklahoma and it is humid here a lot of the time.  I have used 0000 Steel wool and even regular pencil erasers to remove rust.  If you have rust you have a damaged finish.  The rust is oxided metal, not oxidized blueing.

You can buy a blueing, or black touch up pen to re-finish any areas that are obvious.

Always store guns well oiled inside and out.

I hope that the red in your bore is grease, or some other storage compound.  I have seen reddish looking grease/cosmoline, or something used on firearms before.
