Im just curious how many people have one of the MIA bracelets and whose name do you have and why. I personally have James Champion. The only MIA Ranger in Vietnam. I think its the least I can do for these brave soldiers. Any other opinions?

Did you guys know these soldiers?  Just curious, I didn't know that it was "acceptable" to wear one if you did not have any relation, etc.  I would be more than glad to wear one to honor one of these soldiers.

You dont have to know them. Hell, I was only one year old in 1971 when Champion became MIA. It just honors the ones who didnt make it back. Ive been wearing mine for almost 10 years. There is a great website where you can find out more about what happened to these soldiers. www.pownetwork.org/bios.htm

IT is NOT important to have KNOWN them.  I've worn the same bracelet since 1979.  He wasn't a superman, not an elite LRRP or a Geen beret, he didn't die on a mission to kill Uncle Ho, he was a cobra gunship pilot that gave his life for us, for America.  They won't be forgotten by me thats for damn sure.

ABN-RGR:  Thanks for the website.  I am going to get a bracelet.  They should not be forgotten.

You most certainly don't have to know the soldiers.  My family has been contacted by folks all over the country that have my uncle's name on their MIA bracelet.

CAPT Lawsrence Stolz
12-26-71

I have had my MIA braclet for some time.  I don't know Capt Stolz.

The deal was, when I got it, that when your guy came home you took off you POW/MIA braclet.  (The original name.)  My guy never came home so I continue to wear it.  More importantly I continue to write to the Vietnamese and US governments seeking information about Capt. Stolz.  (Our government has, fairly cynically, changed the status of all 2500 MIAs to KIA.)

People ask me why don't I take it off.  Its been decades.  Its simple -- is today the day I break faith with Capt. Stolz?  No.  At some point the braclet will wear out.  Then I'll have a choice to make.  But right now, it stays on my wrist.

A few people still recognize it.  I use it to educate them.  (I lost one job because the guy interviewing me had been an anti-war protester.  He recognized the braclet 1/2 through the interview and it completely threw him.)

I remember when they gave these out in elementary school, like 33 years ago.  Mine was Elmer Freeman. I still remember his name, but not his branch.  Wore it for like 2 years then I don't know what I did with it (I was 7-9 years old).

Wish I still had it.

You can probably still get one with his name on it, unless he has been found.

Capt. (now Col.) Michael Masterson.  Shot down over Laos 10-16-68 MIA.  Friend of my Grandmother. Don't wear the bracelet anymore.  I broke 3 in half over a period of a couple years. I also keep mine above my computer.

Anybody else have James Champion?

Hey ABN-RGR, I have SSGT James Albert Champion. Missing 24 April 71. I wear it every day. I was driving through FT. Benning a few years ago to see how Sand Hill was doing. Stopped by Ranger Joes. I was buying a Screaming Eagle sticker for my car. Saw some POW Bracelets and said to myself "Why don't you have one?". So I found his and he was from the 101st. I just happened to be stationed there, my father was, and I lost a second cousin that was killed Vietnam also that was in the 101st.

No Slack!

Same guy. He was a ranger LRRP in the 101st. I spent 4 1/2 years at Campbell in the 3/187 inf. RAKKASSAN. Where were you? Never mind I see the NO Slack....must be 327?

This is the best thread I have seen on this site. I have wanted to get a bracelet for a long time and had no idea how. I shoulda known this was the place to ask. I put up a POW/MIA flag in my restaurant, and have more comments about it ( all positive, most folks know better now, lest they receive a seious ass whoopin'!) than any piece of sports memorobilia.( Except for the OJ Simpson poster that I put a kitchen knife signed Love OJ, XOXOXO above.) I was born in '73, so I have no memory of the war. My Grandfather ( a helicopter mechanic at Fort Ord) used to bring GI's home for dinner. It was a thank you for guys going over to Viet Nam.

I think if everyone gave a s@#t about the POW/MIA issue as much as they did about McUzi or the U.N. on this site, we might make a difference.....just my $.02
