FBI Agent Suspended Over Gifts, Affair

Reuters

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--An FBI agent has been suspended amid allegations he
had an extramarital affair and accepted gifts from a mob associate's
ex-wife who is a witness in a corruption investigation of Providence
officials, the Providence Journal reported on Tuesday.
The newspaper said the FBI confirmed the suspension with pay of
Special Agent David DiLustro. The gifts he received included a bath house
at an exclusive beach resort, the newspaper said, quoting one of the
agent's friends.
The FBI is investigating DiLustro's relationship with Gail-Ann
Calenda, who bribed Providence officials to get property-tax reductions in
1998. The bribe eventually led to the convictions of two tax officers and
a lawyer, but Calenda, who has changed her name to Gail Goss, cooperated
with the investigation and was not charged.
The investigation of Calenda was part of a broad federal probe of
widespread corruption under Providence Mayor Vincent Cianci called
Operation Plunder Dome.
Cianci, along with two of his close associates and three others, is
under indictment for corruption. He pleaded innocent to federal charges of
racketeering, bribery, extortion and other corruption charges.
Cianci was indicted along with his chief of staff Frank Corrente,
two other former aides and a member of the Providence Towing Association.
It was not clear what effect the DiLustro case would have on
Cianci's case.
If convicted on all counts, Cianci faces up to $2.5 million in fines
and more than 100 years in prison. He was free on $50,000 bail, but
restricted to traveling in Rhode Island and neighboring Massachusetts
unless on official business.
Cianci is the city's longest-serving mayor. He was mayor from 1974
to 1984 but resigned after being convicted of assault. He admitted to
beating a man who was having an affair with his then wife.
After a brief jail term Cianci ran for mayor again in 1990 and was
reelected. Since then he has been praised for bringing about a renaissance
in the struggling New England capital.

Gee, didn't Clinton do the same things and everyone thought it was okay?  At the same time, his subordinates in the military and law enforcement were getting nailed for similar actions.

"At the same time, his subordinates in the military and law enforcement were getting nailed for similar actions."

That was punny.
