I havent had a Ford since the 80's, but I am 99.99% sure thats my next vehicle, when I decide to do it.

As I go to Ford.com, I am getting a major list of different trucks, and without spending hours of eyeburning, I wondered if any of you Ford nuts can tell me the differences other than cost.

XL, STX, XLT, FX4....WTF???? Difference between regular cab & Super Cab???

Is an F-150 not just an F-150 anymore???? Are these complete different packages or just the same truck with different names????

XL, XLT, etc are the trim packages.  XL is the basic package, XLT is a nicer package (such as cloth seats and floors, etc)

Regular Cab - Seats 2 or 3 depending on configuration

Super Cab - Seats 5 or 6 depending on configuration - super cab has four doors - two suicide doors behind the main doors.

Crew Cab - four full size doors

They are all f-150s. The crewcab has 4 regular doors and a short (5') bed, the super has 4 doors too, but the backs ones open backward and are small. The trim levels are what make it xl,xlt, etc. Good trucks btw.

FX4 = off road package. Rancho shocks and skid plates.

XL = base model.  cloth interior and very "bland"
STX = used to be 2wd only, I'm not sure now.  consider it the "sport" package
XLT = XL with more options.  plenty of room for upgrades
FX4 = off road package.  upgraded suspension with off-road goodies (tires) and a nice interior to boot
Lariat = top of the line.  the most creature comforts
King Ranch, Harley Davidson, etc. = so called "special runs"
If I were choosing I would pick the FX4 or the Harley.  YMMV.

FX-4 offroad version.

The above have it nailed. Just trim packages with different levels and kinds of equipment. A basic nice truck with power everything is an XLT.

XL, STX, XLT, FX4, etc are different option packages. XL being the lowest. It probably won't have carpeting and you'll get a cheap, vinyl bench. STX has an appearance pacakge on it. FX4 is a package for their 4x4 trucks. Lariat is the highest package. You'll end up with the fancy interior and leather, etc. Best bet is to go to the lot and look at the different trucks.

Super Cab is an extended cab truck. Crew Cab has the four doors

Whatever truck you decide on, make sure you get a 4x4, it's not a truck unless it's 4-wheel drive.

The Lariat is basically an XLT with leather electric seats. Otherwise, the options are the same.

Mine is a '99 XLT Super Cab.

That is essentially correct, although for the new bodystyle in '04 the F150 has a slightly different looking dash between the XLT and the Lariat, and both have better dash arrangements than the XL.

Good trucks.

These were the REAL Ford F-150s back in the mid to late 70s, I had one 4x4  just like this with 400M and it was one tough SOB.

I have an 04 F-150 XLT Crew, 4.6, tow package. I love my truck. Gas Mileage is between 16-17.5 gpm. I didn't get 4x4 because it's a reason to have to go into work when it is snowing. I also had an unexpected surprise last week. I got a package in the mail addessed to me, but I was a little dumbfounded since I hadn't ordered anything lately and I don't know anyone in MO. Well I opened the box and it was a Craftsmen 4 piece 19.2 volt cordless tool set. A Drill, circular saw, work light and reciprocating saw. There was a card enclosed that in short read, thank you for buying a new Ford truck and to show our appreciation here is a gift. I'm not sure if the deal is still on. I didn't know that I qualified because I thought I had purchased my truck before the offer, but I geuss they grandfathered me.

Here is my 2004 FX4 SuperCrew.   This is by far the best truck that I have ever owned.  The only upgrade that I did not get was the 18" wheels (more aftermarket tire choices with the 17's) and the Audiophile sound system.  Even with the crappy tires that came on my truck, It has pulled me through some pretty nasty situations.

It's a great site.  I've got a 98 and it just failed the yearly inspection but I searched the fault code I was given and lo and behold, 1 $52 sensor later and I'm good to go.  The shop was wanting $80 for the part and $100 for labor.   Took all of 20 minutes.

A "real man" would never buy a "toyota tacoma" and then admit it in public.

I have an 04 F150 Scab Lariat.

I'm one of the unlucky ones with the  vibration in the steering wheel and drive line.  Rather than turn this into a long thread about who has the vibe and who doesn't, I'll leave that to f150online.

Other than that, great truck.  My second one.  I had an 02 F150 Scab Lariat before this one.
