Ak-47 is the Russian infantry rifle. It is caliber 7.62X39. Issued in 1947 and used till about 1974 (go figure[:D])
In 1974 they issued the AK-74 in 5.45X39 as their answer to the M-16. I'm sure people will post pics of each. The AK-74 is distinguishable by it's orange or brown plastics mags, and the muzzle break on the real ones. Sorry, I don't have any pics to post. |

Basically,
The Ak-47 has the milled billet receiver in 7.62x39mm. The AKM is the modified version that uses a stamped receiver, still 7.62x39mm. The AK-74 is the 5.45x39 caliber version. |

[b]AK-74(SAR2) with original Romanian muzzle brake and front sight block. Everything is there except the bayo lug(it's there but I shaved off the ears to make it legal, pissed me off to have to do that). As far as I know there are no or very few, a handful really, real AK-74's in this country[/b]
