Does anyone have access to a bulldozer or better yet a Tank? We should all send our Leatherman's to one member and call the press to record the tank/Bulldozer "demilling" a large pile of leatherman's as a way of publically protesting his anti-sportsman position. Yes anti-sportman. Kerry has plans to take our guns.

Who's game? I'll donate mine.

Get them fixed (if under warranty), then eBay them (it will cost Leatherman new sales)

He could care less if you bulldoze em, he already has your money. Cut into his sales, it's the only thing a rich spoiled hypocrite (ask him about outsourcing) will understand.

That is a waste of time, what was the old saying about "cutting off your nose to spit your face?" or something like that. You all bought and paid for Tim's tool, and its paid up. Just don't buy his tool in the future, the sheeples in this world probably wouldn't give a $hit one way or the other whether Tim Leatherman donated to the Dems or Repubs or not.

Columbia was also mentioned in that article. Here is the response from my letter to them.

Dear Mr. Shaw,

Thank you for taking the time to contact Columbia Sportswear and share your concerns regarding a recent article in the Oregonian.

Please let me assure that Columbia Sportswear is a bi-partisan and public company that doesn?t affiliate with political candidates or organizations.  However, as an outdoor company we are concerned with outdoor issues that effect the environment and our consumer?s ability to enjoy the outdoors.  Therefore, we?ve ensured that Columbia representatives have been in attendance during each candidate?s visit to the Pacific Northwest.  Specifically, the article that announced our support for the Kerry campaign was a misprint and should have only announced personal support for Kerry on behalf of Peter Bragdon ? a company executive.  In addition, it should be noted that other company executives including our CEO and President, Tim Boyle have personally supported the Bush campaign both verbally and monetarily.  In conclusion, Columbia Sportswear did not and will not endorse a candidate for President of the United States.

Thanks again for you inquiry and the opportunity to respond to your concerns.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns regarding Columbia Sportswear or our products.

Best wishes,

Kim

Dear Sir or Madam:
I assure you I have personally read your e-mail. However, due to the volume of messages received, I cannot give a personalized response to each to you.
However, here in a nutshell is a general response:
Because I publicly stated how I am going to cast my vote, almost all of you have threatened a boycott against my company.
So be it.
I took a position, and now I will accept the consequences.
I am still going to do my absolute best to make great tools and hope that you and all Americans, of every political affiliation, will find them of value. If not today, someday.

Maybe it's just me - but this seems a bit ignorant. The guy has a different political opinion than you do. Are you guys going to ask every resteraunt to meet the owner and get his political view, too? Then leave if you don't agree? What about your favorite bar or coffee shop? Do you stop talking to someone the minute you find out they're a different religion than you are? Or have a different sexual preference? Or like Chevy instead of Ford?

Christ, just because the man has a different believe doesn't mean you should go out of your way to try and screw him over. A boycott or other 'attack' is completely unjustified based on what he stated. If he said "The troops are scum and don't deserve to use my products" *THEN* you have a valid reason to screw him over. If you decide that next time you purchase a product you're going to avoid his, that is justified as well - it's a consumer market - but going out of your way to screw his business is childish.

You guys are as bad as the DU pricks who freak out when we say we're voting for Bush without even *trying* to comprehend a reason.

Hang up your ignorance and don't bring yourself down to the DU level.

Have you bothered to read the whole thread? Your logic is not unlike the logic of a Tim Robbins or Dixie Chicks member who thinks that the 1st Ammendment guaratees them the right to say idiotic things and then not be held accountable by the consumer for it. NOT true! Tim chose to take PUBLIC stand for Kerry. That was a mistake. Had he just gone to the polls and voted Kerry, no one would have cared. We all know that MOST of Hollyweird is voting for Kerry. But I reserve my greatest disgust for the ones who have to spew that fact to the public. A saying for all of these public buffoons should be "shut up and vote", or SUV!!!

I don't recall any of us asking for Mr. L's opinion.  He waved it out in public.

Then leave if you don't agree? What about your favorite bar or coffee shop? Do you stop talking to someone the minute you find out they're a different religion than you are? Or have a different sexual preference? Or like Chevy instead of Ford?

No, but I don't hand them my money, either - especially when their opinions are waved in my face.  Chances are that I do business with hundreds of people whose opinions and religions differ from mine.  But they and I generally keep our opinions to ourselves (unless they are solicited, or if the risk of losing the transaction is outweighed by the benefit of such charged discussions), and thus we keep business strictly business.
"If some unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience.  But if anyone says to you, 'This has been offered in sacrifice [to a god other than the Christian God],' then do not eat it, both for the sake of the man who told you and for conscience' sake--the other man's conscience, I mean, not yours."  I Corinthians 10:27-29a

....just because the man has a different believe doesn't mean you should go out of your way to try and screw him over. A boycott or other 'attack' is completely unjustified based on what he stated.  If he said "The troops are scum and don't deserve to use my products" *THEN* you have a valid reason to screw him over. I don't recall any desire on my part to "screw him over".  I've simply chosen to take my business elsewhere, and will recommend others do the same.  When they ask why, I will tell them precisely why-  that the company president supports a presidential candidate who stands against nearly everything I hold dear.

If "screw[ing] him over" refers to having warranty work done with the intent to tie up his plant, then you must be sure to exclude me (and probably others) from your general use of "you".

You guys are as bad as the DU pricks who freak out when we say we're voting for Bush without even *trying* to comprehend a reason.

Yep, I read it. HAVE YOU? This is what the guy said :

In a nutshell, my position is that personally, I am probably benefiting much more from the Bush tax cuts and other economic policies than most people, but I'm very concerned about where the policies of the current administration are taking this country. I'm very concerned that many, many people are not better off now than they were three and one half years ago, and I'm even more concerned about the future for our children and grandchildren. I don't agree with everything Kerry and Edwards propose either, but I think we need a change.

I'd like to see the proper balance between sustaining and extracting resources, maintaining or improving the environment, and providing recreational use of wilderness and outdoors recreation areas so that they remain open, healthy, and accessible to hunters and anglers and hikers and campers and other outdoor recreationists, now and for future generations. I think Bush has tilted too far to the side of the mining and petroleum interests.

I'm not trying to alienate customers. It has become more difficult and more expensive for Americans to participate in outdoors recreation. Fewer people enjoying quality outdoor experiences means fewer Leatherman tools being sold and fewer jobs in businesses like ours. I have over 300 people working here in my Portland factory. Four years ago I had more. I'd like to at least keep those I have and preferably add more.

Maybe I wasn't very smart to give my job title and business affiliation when I gave my endorsement, rather than to do it personally, but I did. If it costs me business, so be it. I'm still going to do my absolute best to make great tools and hope that all Americans, of any political affiliation, will find them of value.

Sincerely yours,

Tim Leatherman

The Dixie chicks stood up and said that President Bush was dumb and they were ashamed to have him leading our country. They also insulted the American people. They are fucksticks, and deserved every goddamn bit of flame they got.

In what way has this man slandered the country, the president, or the people of America? THE GUY HAS A DIFFERENT POLITICAL VIEW.

Do you see the distinction?

Voting with your money != Actively trying to go out and take away business from someone that you do not agree with politically.

I do agree with you that bringing your opinion to the public eye is a mistake, but we are all human. How many of you just 'shut your mouths' when someone asks you at work? Or at a party? Lord knows I don't - I live in the most liberal city in Texas, and I've had my share of drunken heated discussions with dumbasses who think we're in Iraq only to suck the earth dry of oil.

There's a big difference between having a different opinion and slighting through ignorance.

Bomber: Apparently you can't freakin' read, either. I would suggest trying to digest what the hell I was trying to say. Since that may be too much for you, I will simplify it and use small words.

In all my posts, I have clarified (more than once) that voting with your money is perfectly acceptable. Actively going out and seeking to destroy someone's business because the owner's political view clashes with your own is fucking ignorant. Capiche?

Not everyone in this thread has said that they are actively trying to turn business away from Leatherman. Instead, they have said that since they disagree with his politics, they will no longer patronize his products. This is perfectly acceptible, and logical.

Do I need to use smaller words, or do ya'll get it now?

"But health care costs have gone up 200% under Bushes Administration". Well, THAT fuck is personally responsible for the increases. HE LIES TO THE PEOPLE, AND LEATHERMAN SUPPORTS THIS FUCK!

SO SCREW LEATHERMAN & ALL HIS FUCKING LIBERAL PALS. I HOPE HE ROTS IN HELL NEXT TO CORPSES OF DEAD CHILDREN THAT WERE PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTED! AFTER ALL, HE SUPPORTS THAT MURDER!
