I was hanging out with Cav-Arms at the "AWB Death Party" yesterday planning on leaving a Mossberg 590 and my friends AR-15 upper for Derek to work on. He told me right off the bat he could thread my friends barrell and put a flash suppressor on it, he also told my friend he was going to parkerize the barrell as it had some scratches on it. While he was parkerizing my friends upper he did the same to my Mossberg's barrell as it was scratched up pretty bad. After that he installed the SST-590 adapter for a pistol grip and collapsible stock that Russell from Cav-Arms made and charged us next to nothing! The best part was we were planning on leaving all the guns with him and picking them up at a later date, he had it all done in about 20 minutes. I just wanted to post some pics and say you can't go wrong with sending in work to Derek, he is a perfectionist.....and does damn fine work. Here is my Mossberg as it sits today with the new SST-590 and a newly parkerized barrell.

so is it safe to say I can now take my"post ban" weapons and put "evil" features on them? and if the ban goes back into effect will these converted post ban weapons be grandfathered in?

How is that trigger reach?
That space between the pistol grip and the trigger guard is the only reason why I won't buy his conversion. |

I don't have huge hands and it is fine for me, feels good. Also that conversion doesn't have anything to do with the AWB going away as this is a pump shotgun, not a semi-auto. I just have wanted to do that to my 590 for a while and this was as good of time as any. |

That's cool, but the trigger reach bothers me as well. Why can't they design a part where the pistol grip is moved forward, closer to the trigger guard?

1) The trigger reach is longer than the SST-870 (and longer than an AR15). This was unavoidable for 2 reasons;
a) cost of machining would have been greatly more expensive to position the pistol grip farther forward b) for ambidextrous access to the slide release We believe it was more important for the shooter to be able to put their finger behind the trigger guard to activate it. As the result of this longer trigger reach, grips such as the ergo grip and Fobus G27 grip may not work well for some shooters as the trigger reach will be too long

If you guys ever picked a 590 up like this I'm sure it wouldn't bother you unless you have small hands. Everyone that I showed it to yesterday and that picked it up and shouldered it didn't even mention it. It's a nonissue to me at least....Russell from Cav-Arms did a great job in the design IMHO.

now since that's based on a AR stock/grip.. can you change out that hard grip for something softer like a hogue? what did that run ya anyway?

Any AR15 grip can be mounted on the SST-590 or the SST-870, which grip you use is of course dependent on personal preferance and feel.

Derek coated my mortar earlier this year. He wants to coat the bipod which is in need of some preservation. I know, resistance is futile.
