Headed your way.
www.net-waves.com/weather/td06.php I know you know about it...just wanted everyone else to see. NHC & UKMET have Francis on front row. Prayers being sent. |
Great, just in time for the Labor Day weekend!!!
You'd think that as a native, I'd be used to these things by now. |
Ain't it the truth? You never get used to em'...it just makes your blood pressure go up about 30 points. Everytime I track them, the beginning always gets lost after landfall. The closer it gets to you, the more you realize you don't like them very much. I have all my hurricane shtf plans ready to deploy. I just hate the fact you don't really know if it's coming.
True enough. But at least you have a heads up nowdays. Unlike what it was, say for the storm of 1900. |
I'm in Broward County, the third most southern county on the east coast of Florida. If this 'cane continues on the projected path above, we'll feel the effects here late Thursday night. As always, my last minute bug out plan is set. I'll be online with updates as long as the power permits. God willing.

That thing is headed straight for my house!
The predicted landfall and the angle its coming in at brings the eye right across my front yard! |
now mine from what they say..... i just had to BO and move from the last one,,now again,,urgrgghhhh
Got hit by Andrew the first year I moved into this house. I wasn't ready then. I'm ready now. Lot's of water, food, batteries, portable generator, etc. We're ready, but still, I pray it misses us.
Don't be complacent, Floridians....just look at the pics of those poor people in Punta Gorda THEN decide if you're gonna board up or not. Stay safe everyone and be careful. |
Crap It looks like its gonna either be a direct hit or just to the North of me......
This one may be stronger than the one that hit Punta Gorda. Be very cautious. The last update I saw had it at 140 mph as far as sustained winds with gusts to 160. At the time the pressure was also still dropping, indicating further strengthening. Many forecasters think this one could become a category 5, the highest classification on the scale. It would not surprise me at all if this thing came ashore packing 155 or 160 mph winds. So again, watch your asses down there and be prepared to evacuate well inland should the need arise. While there's always the chance it may weaken or chance course, it's also possible it may be another Andrew or worse. And if history is any indicator, some of the worst hurricanes in history have taken place around the Labor Day holiday, as it's near peak season.

Beginning to get bad here. Lowes and Home Depot are out of or running out of plywood, generators, chain saws, and just about any other storm related items. Our usual grocery night is Wednesday, but decided to go tonight. Empty shelves in Publix. Not a "D" cell battery to be found in any ogf the above stores OR Wally-World.
Charging_Handle, this one is going to dwarf Charlie. This is Andrew class. Unless you've seen what Andrew did, you can't even imagine the damage. Whole developments leveled.
Looking at the track from the beginning, this one looks like Isabel, but 200 miles south...
Just for reference, what is the minimum speed of a F1 Tornado? I THINK its 175mph winds anyone know for certain?
F1 - 73 to 112mph F2 - 113 to 157mph F3 - 158 to 206mph Also, with hurricanes, remember that the wind speed is calculated as if the storm were stationary. THIS storm is traveling at 17 mph! The north side of this storm is producing SUSTAINED winds of 157mph.. and it is expected to be strengthening. |
It's still too far away to know which direction this thing is going to go....last minute shifts in direction are entirely possible.
Absolutely.. Georgia and South Carolina need to watch closely too. |
This storm is has me concerned here in SW VA. It is reminding me of Hugo when we got flooded really bad. This storm is huge! Andrew was rather small and compact, this one looks like it could cover the whole state of Florida.
Hugo hit here too.. Not hard enough to knock down buildings, but I remember not having power and water for 10 days. |
Yep, Hugo still had quite a punch when it got here. We couldn't even leave our neighborhood for a couple days, and had no power. I was out of school and helping cut up trees for a week. Good luck to everyone that may be in its path, and here's hoping it just turns out to sea. |

Did anybody save the images of the forecasted tracks from a few days ago?
Is there a place to find previous track forecasts? (I looked all over NOAA and couldn't find much of anything) |
BOHICA... |
Well, we dodged a huge bullet with Charley here in the Tampa Bay area...good for us, but not so good for my in-laws, who live in Punta Gorda...their house survived with only minor damage, but many others down there were not so fortunate...it's a real mess down there...
I only have one thing to say to Frances...bring it, bitch!!! |
The visible shows it as being larger than ALL of florida! YIKES! |
Hope your insurance is paid up! Best luck. When do you plan to evac? |
I would say we need the rain but we don't. Frances is a down cycle right now...when she hits the gulfstream, lookout. That hot water will fire her up again. |
Took the words right out of my mouth, God be with you. |
So this new path is crisscrossing Charley's path on the west/middle area?
Them guys are gonna have probs... |
damn, looks like its gonna tear FL a new asshole........................
good luck to you guys, yall been getting the shit end of the stick for a while, we've been lucky here since celia in the '70s.......................... |
Tampa, anyway. Even though it is on the "other side", they aren't done fixin what they got 3 weeks ago... |
As of right now, it looks like I'm sitting on ground zero(Indian River County). Hate to pass this off on someone else, but I sure hope this takes a turn north.
