Seeking a replacement for the venerable M16 platform rifle the US Army has finally adopted a US Army specific variant of the Heckler & Koch 33 (5.56 Nato) rifle. HK designed this variant specifically for the US Army along the sames lines as the US Navy MP5N (Navy) model. The rifle was finally adopted after evaluations in the extreme environments of the Middle East and outperformed the HK G36 and HK M4 models which were also under consideration for adoption. The variant differs from the standard HK33 rifle in that a 40 round magazine is now standard, replacing the 20 and 30 round magazines and the trigger pack is specifically configured for US Army forces. Instead of the standard 0-1-20 or S-E-F trigger pack usually encountered on HK rifles the US Army Rifle HK33A (Army) has a S-U-O lower. The designations are as follows: S - Stupid (Safe) U - Unload (Semi Automatic) O - Ooooooah (Full Automatic) It is hoped that these new designations are useful in conveying to proper mindset to US Army forces serving in hostile envirnoments of the Middle East where they are currently operating. |

WTF?
Is this just something for limited use or what? The only HK firearm I thought were were looking at was that XM8 contraption. I must say I prefer the looks of this weapon 10x over the XM8. But I don't get this at all. Or is this just a joke altogether? With all the modular stuff we use, I don't see where you'd put it on that weapon. |
Watch for the SteyrAug group buy on this to be announced later this week... You too can own the latest US Military longarm, albeit in a neutered politically correct version from SteyrAug Limited Distributors!
Sorry buddy, had to do it... only kidding... |
Boy, that would be great for shooting cats trespassing in my yard!
No, they didn't! Liar! |
+1 Please say this isn't a horrible, tasteless joke. Why are all our weapons suddenly being designed by Germans and built by Germans? Don't we have US designed and produced weapons for OUR US ARMY? |
The HK33/93 series was a total waste of space IMHO. I sold mine in record time.
*edited to add... I did always want an HK53 though. |
Likely a joke. Twenty years ago it might have been true. But with modern requirements for weapons, this one just doesn't seem to have the goodies needed to mount all that stuff on.
Still, I would love to have one of those for my personal collection since my requirements are different than the US Army's. |
Latest reports indicate H&K is unable to meet the US made requirements, so production will be contracted to Special Weapons.
What do you mean "suddenly"? US Army carried Krag-Jorgensen (Swedish), Springfield (a German Mauser to all extent and purposes), MP-5 (Germans), FN made M-16s, FN made M-249 and M-240 (Belgians). |
I'm thinking you guys should have a second look at the trigger pack designations. |
I last slept over 25 hours ago. I actually thought this was serious for a bit, until I read the "fire control" designations. LOL. I need to stay away from here when I am a zombie. Gotta stay sharp when around this crew.
I bet the US Air Force will be buying Mirage's and Rafael's by next week too. |
Sure, but what did I do to deserve one Man that fricken thing is making me WoOzY! Turn it off, TURN IT OFF!!! For the sake of the children, just please turn it off!!! Sly ETA: I thought the joke was funny, I can't see how anyone missed the selector designations. But the write up had me going for a second, till I read the designations... ETA2: For Spelling, AZ-K9's flashing post |
If you gold plate a turd and put "HK" on it, it's still a turd.
Broken link? S / U / O selector? Photographed on somebody's tile kitchen floor? It's a joke people. It isn't true. Calm down. |
Steyr, I think you may have been a little too subtle for this board.
For what it's worth, I got a good laugh though. |
I'm thinking its OBVIOUS how many people actually READ the entire post, and then COMPREHENDED what they read. |

Personally, I'm glad the "Unload" and "Ooooooooah" positions are in red so everybody will know that is when the gun fires.
Scoff if you want. These things are catching on. www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=16435175 Oooooooah! |
I noticed the same thing. |

Until I saw the trigger pack, I thought this was serious. As soon as I gazed upon the letters "S-U-O," I realized this man is BSing.
I should have at least figured this rifle would take STANAG magazines... |

Reading Comprehension on ARFKOM, 20%
Pretty funny, it would be too cool to pick up some contractor overruns for AR prices though. I would have to switch out the trigger groups however. |
it's a joke... |
WTF is S-U-O? And the German Army don't use HK33s and never did.
You know, if you go to the CENTCOM page, they have a logo for operation enduring freedom.
it's a bunch of flags, all in the shape of an eagle. The IMI / Magnum Research Eagle!!!!!!! Maybe Vulcan Arms can help Special Weapons with the contract overruns??? |
You mean a gun dealer on Gunbroker LIED?!? I am shocked. That has never happened before. I forget which contract uses SUO. |
I used to get to shoot the 33 on a semi regular basis. I likled it, Nice gun.
Yeah well, I don't have any experience with buying guns online. So since it's the internet... no further questions. h.gif |
Oh holy crap... oh holy crap... I *rarely* laugh out loud to funny stuff but this had me screamin. Hahahaha!! For a second after looking at the pic I was thinking "SUO?? What is this crap??" "Ooooah" LOL ! |
But you can be sure that then some bunch of internet gunnuts wouold post on a website claiming the "tactical advantage" of those HK marked gold-plated turds over regular turds, and pretty soon there'd be a whole bunch of wannabes in black HK "Gold Turds" (tm) t-shirts and hats pinching off a loaf and looking in the bowl for that yellow glint... |
You are correct however, the German Army used the G3 and not the HK33. The HK33 was used by German Law Enforcement. I believe they also used the G3 as I recall pictures of an officer running with one during the 1972 Olympics (unless it was an HK91 but I would think it would be a G3). |
Yeah, those MP5s really suck. Any SAS member can tell you they are pure hype. |
Huh? |
I think KBL was suggesting that HKs are less than deserving of their reputation. You seemed to be in agreement. |
Negative! I'm impressed with their high quality and reliable function. Shit that works is always impressive. I *was* making fun of sycophantic wannabes though. Can I have an MP5K now? |
Gotcha, carry on. MP5k run about $14k how many did you want? |
I'll let you know when I leave the PRK... What does S//U/O stand for, anyway? |
Is the post ban Vector 33? If so how much? |
Germany is a federation, so there was/is different equipment for every state/federal police force. For that matter, the HK33 was never used by any federal police unit, and I'm not too sure about state level forces. Military style high-powered weapons are being frowned upon for use in regular police units. MP5s everywhere, but that's about it, except for SWAt teams of course. The PC factor still plays a major part. For example, the HK21 (G8) used by the Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Guard) is a 'multi-purpose rifle', not a machinegun. hy.gif |
I don't think ANYONE has a postban Vector yet. Course they've been availabe since February. Last I heard they were still waiting on US barrels since they are laboring under the impression that it is illegal to have a foreign barrel on a 922r gun. So all you guys with Romanian AKs, FALs with Steyr or Imbel barrels and G3s with HK / FMP barrels better get rid of your illegal guns. If you take a close look you would note the grenade ring and flash hider, so no it isn't a postban from Vector. |
