You guys that are cutting yourselves and having to shower away the blood are doing something wrong! I have been using a Schick Tracer FX (a nice razor setup with disposable double bladed razors and a vitamin e thingie) for the past 6 years and have cut myself maybe two or three times. I just use any shaving cream, but lately I've been using Neutrogena as it's supposed to be good for my skin. If you're cutting yourself, you're cutting at a wrong angle, or pushing too hard or something. I'd think about changing what you're doing. Might want to switch to a better razor if you just use those cheap disposable ones.

Oh yeah and after I shower for me.

It aint so much when as to where..

How many of you have shaved outside under the morning sun.. You cant believe
how much more exhilarating it is..

I concreted a 4 x 4 in my yard, attached a mirror and shelf to it..   If you shave
in doors, then go out under the suns light, you wont
believe what you've missed looking in the mirror!

The sun usually comes up 2-3 hours after I shave.

On weekends, I get the morning sun shining right into my bathroom - no need to go outside for natural light.  Plus, I'm not sure how the neighbors would respond to seeing me shave outside, as I tend to shave in the nude.

BTW, I shave AFTER I shower, or I at least try to wash my face with good hot water first.

I heard a barber telling a guy it's better to shave after applying a hot towel over the face, it helps the hairs stand out for a better shave? so I think shaving after a warm shower would be best.

I shave prior to showering, simply because it takes lots of water to get rid of that residue left behind by shaving gel. And because that's the way I've always done it and don't feel like changing.

During a shower is my prefered method when I'm at home.

I also LOVE to shave when I am camping.  Cold water and soap wash, cold water rinse, lather with shaving cream and a nice SHARP blade, cold water rinse, then a nice aftershave moisturizing cream.  It's like a York Peppermint Patty commercial!!

If you are bleeding when you shave you are doing it WRONG...

+1

After the shower/bath. You get a much better shave.

And if you cut yourself you're doing something wrong.

Before I grew a moustache (about ten years ago) I shaved in the shower.  I didn't need a mirror to make sure everything came out symmetrical.  Now I do it after the shower.

Try after, your hair will soften up quite a bit making shaving a lot less painful. I can't even shave without showering with really hot water it just tears my face up otherwise.

Mach III is the shit by the way.

I am starting to think that the reason I bleed sometimes after a shave is because I don't put enough warm water on my face and it's not so much that I'm getting cuts as the razor is just yanking hair out of my face instead.

I might have to start trying during... I just worry about not getting my "side burns" symmetrical. Not that I have Elvis pork chops, but still.

A friend of mine told me once that he was going to buy this solution that you keep your razors in that is supposed to remove all the residue from the blade, because the blade never actually dull, but simply get seriously crudded up and all they need is to have the crap removed from the blade. Anyone ever hear of this or should I move it to the "wives tale" thread.

I use a Mach 3 Turbo... it's the bomb. I don't think I have ever used those packs of disposable one piece razors... they scare me.

I use an electric shaver so I cant shave in shower.  Showering also softens your skin and hair so it makes it better or something

Shave afterward.  I had bad acne in high school, and it left parts of my face rough enough that I don't use a razor unless I'm fully awake.  I had a mustache since I was able to grow one, and recently shaved it off when I approached my 35th birthday.  I grew it because I hated looking younger than I was, but then I got tired of looking at the old man in the mirror.  I use two electric razors:  one as a brush chopper, and the second one for the close work.

During, but I am a recovering "after".

I get up about half an hour before the campers, and it takes most of that to get all the parts clean and rinsed and such.  (Hard water plus field-expedient-ultra-low-flow-CaCO3-clogged-head = a long time to rinse off the soap.)  I don't really want to have my towel off, drying my face, when a pack of ten-year-olds run in from another counselor's cabin.  ("Have you ever seen a grown man naked?")

So I started shaving in the shower.  No shaving cream required, I know my face well enough that I don't need a mirror, and I won't frighten the campers.

Another innovation:  Buy a package of disposable razors, and use a new one each day of camp.  Razor burn is no fun in 100° weather.

Sensor Excel for me, thanks, though I have used the single-edge old-fashioned kind.  They do a very good job, but you have to be a little more careful.

Anyone use a straight razor?  How do you do it without cutting your own head off?

Only after I shower. Saves the skin. Gillette Mach3. Best shave I ever got.
