Can't he be impeached or recalled or something?

Doesn't seem like he's representing the people who voted him into office.

I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow for his decision.

Well . . .

When the GOP swings far right and becomes radical neo-nazi lock step christian fundamentalist, it sort of pushes the moderate Republicans out of the nest.

Before you tar me with the broad brush of "bleeding heart, liberal, commie bastard" let me add that I don't care for the Demos either.

Politics suck. That's why the founders provided that the PEOPLE arm themselves . . . so we can "well regulate" the govt. and ensure a free state.

The thing is, I bet that if the people of Vermont had a choice they would tell him to stay in the Republican party so that they can keep the majority in the senate.  He is there to represent them and I believe that he is doing a piss-poor job of that right now.  If Vermont wanted an independent, they would have  elected one.  I think that a vote by the people of the state should be required before a politician can jump ship on his political party and shift the balance of power.  It just doesn't seem fair to the people who elected him.

To me moderate Republicans suck! You are either conservative and want a smaller goverment or not. Don't play both sides of the fence. Personally Libetarian or Constitution Party are the only parties with a chance of returning the goverment to its proper size.

So much for representing your constituents.  I guess the fact that a Republican majority got him elected isn't a good enough reason to stay in the party.  It's bad enough that he jumped ship, but to give the Senate back to the Democrats is unforgiveable.  I guess Jeffords actions just affirm the mentality in America today:  I'll look out for me and mine and to hell with everyone else.

I'd sure be happy if this wedgeass was from MY state.  [-!-]

The problem for all of us is Jeffers thinks he is serving his constituents.   His poll numbers are way up in VT.

The state easily went for Gore. He has constantly voted against Rep issues.  The other Senators is a very liberal Dem.  The state has a Socialist/Independent Congressman.  Last but not least he may think he is doing the sate a favor if he cut a deal with Daschel to become Chairman of the Senate Envirnoment Cmte & his fellow VT Senator becomes Chairman of the Senate Judical Cmte which controls vote of Fed Judge appointment approvals.

This state now may have far more influence in porportion to it's population.

Damn I'm pissed.

The problem is moderate/liberal Republicans like this POS and McCain.  They think it's their job to run the country and if they can't get their way they say screw everyone.  Why has McCain been holding hands with several Democrats lately?  McCain wants his ideas to be pushed through and he doesn't care how that happens, because he thinks he should be running this country.  Senator Jeffers is the same way.  He tried playing hard ball with Bush and Bush played back.  Now he is picking up his ball so no one else can play with it and is going home.

Politics work by following the agenda of the person in charge, ie the President.  If you are in the President's party you have the chance to get your ideas heard, that's it.  If they fit his agenda then he will move them forward.  No good can come out of going against your party or the President.

Matt:

Why do moderate republicans suck.  There is a difference between being a republican and being a conservative just as there is a difference between being a democrat and a liberal. Take Chuck Robb for example from Va., my home state.  He is a democrat but not liberal.  Frankly, even being in different states can make a difference.
In Va I might be a democrat b/c the rebups in Va. are mostly right-wring religious types while here where I am now the dems are more liberal than in Va. and I am a republican.

Watch for the GOP to start pressuring conservative Dems like Zell Miller-GA (I know, he said he's not switching. But you'd be amazed at what a chairmanship offer can do), Max Cleland-GA, Tim Johnson-SD, John Bereaux-LA or Max Baucus-MT.

The Dems will look to consolidate their hold by offering smaller chairmanships to other moderate GOPers, Chafee, Snowe etc.

This makes me so f*cking pissed I want to toss my computer out the window.

I will absolutely donate money to the GOP challenger next election if Jeffords runs again.

He has been a Republican in name only anyway. From Hillary-Care to impeachment to gun control he has always had a liberal voting record. The only thing the Republicans will lose is committee chairmanships anyway. They have been losing this war for a long time now. Until the Republicans learn to play dirty politics and beat the Dems at their own game, they have lost. The Dems have the press on their side, a gullable populace, and they are great at demonizing EVERYTHING the Republicans do..."They want to poison our kids...Give guns to kids....Starve our seniors...Poison our water...Rape our earth....Take away women's rights....etc, etc, etc. When is the last time you saw or read anything about a republican or a conservative in a favorable light? (Other than on Fox News Channel!)

Boyz, I'm afraid that Sen. Jeffords IS probably representing the 'good people' of Vermont in a way that they would approve. The 'Green Mountain Boys' have become nancy-boys.

Any state that can send Bernie Sanders, the only Socialist in Congress, to be their State's only rep in the House, can't be too distressed over Jeffords' turning coat.

So much for the Green Mountain State.

I started a seperate thread for this post but I'll put it here to:  http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?id=24749#lastPost

I have seen many posts here and elsewhere that pertain to Jefferds switching parties and throwing control to the Socialists. Many of the statements I have read say "what do you expect from a state that has the only socialist in congress, Bernie Sanders(I).

Go to this site www.dsausa.org/dsa.html You can use the search function to search their site. Top icon bar, magnifing glass. Type in Progressive Caucus. You will see to links, clcik #1 that is titled Progressive Caucus. Here is the link www.netprogress.org/ It ends up re-directing you here www.ips-dc.org/netprogress/ When that page opens click on Congressional Progressive Caucus, then Members of the Caucus. It takes you here bernie.house.gov/pc/members.asp here you will find a list of the 56 members of Congress who are card carrying members of the Democratic Socialist of America.

Before the election, there was a direct link right on the front page of the DSA-USA website. A direct link!! These people can not get elected if they say what they really are. If they could, why does Bernie Sanders run as an Independant instead of a Socialist? Why are these 56 people who are trying their best to enact a Socialist agenda in this country running as Democrats? Take a good look at that list of names. Most are powerful people in the Congress and they are all huge gun grabbers.

They use the word progressive to disguise what they are. People are'nt to sure what that is(the sheep anyway) but Socialism has a negative connotation in America, which it deserves, so they can't use that term. Bernie Sanders is the only one who will openly admit what he is. Evidently the state of VT is fully of Socialists.

So guys/gals. Point this out to everyone you know. Don't use the words Democrat and or Liberal in discussions or writtings anymore. Use the word that tells what these people are about, call them by what they are. Pure unabashed Socialists

Sorry, I don't mean to flame..I just don't think liberals care about freedom and liberty. They just want to buy votes by scaring people. It's all about class warfare and scaring people so they will come running to BIG GOVERNMENT to make them "SAFE" from all these percieved dangers.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." --Samuel Adams

Like they say, "All politics is local"...

jeffords knows his constituency will follow him no mattr what party he's with. He's been on the Hill too long and they perceive his long tenure as strength.  The problem here is that jeffords used the GOP machinery to get in just before jumping ship.  If I were a republican VT voter, I would feel used and taken advantage of, and I would want his head on a plate.  I just hope the republican party of VT mounts a full bore campaign to unseat him in the next election cycle...but unfortunately thats almost 6 years away.

Rather than writing to that turncoat jeffords (who really doesn't give a crap what we think), I'll be writing to the VT GOP to be updated on what thy're going to do in the next election cycle.  Hell, he's not my senator, but I'd gladly donate to anyone that could take this a--hole down in the next election just to make a point and make an example of him.

Correct.  As Larry Elder put it:  "Democrats and Republicans:  about a dime's worth of difference."

You want change?  We've got to elect real Libertarian or Constitution party candidates to local and state offices, then take the best of those and put them in Congress.  The two-party system we have now is a massive machine dedicated to increasing the size of the machine.  The party in charge has little to do with the DIRECTION of increasing government size and power, merely the SPEED.  Remember, the 2002 budget represents a mere 4% increase, not 11%.

Getting the voters to THINK is our biggest problem.  Face it, most people don't vote, and most voters don't think.  Too many haven't learned that particular skill.  THINKING doesn't matter, it only matters if you CARE.

Did I tell him he was a POS? Did I liken this to a married man (20 yrs) coming home and announcing his homosexuality?  Did I tell him to rot in hell? Did I I tell him he is a disgrace to all involved? Did I tell him I hope he rots in hell? Tar & feathered? Drawn & Quartered? keel holed? More, More , More...DAMN SKIPPY.....

And I am sure, before Memorial day weekend is over, I will pass along other vital information I feel is important.

I cant believe the arrogance of this ass, and there is LITTLE doubt in MY mind, he knew of this shennanigan LONG before now...during election time perhaps?

He JUST replaced Hitlery as my most unfavorite American, and I also nominate him  'Most likely to be asked to leave the country'..All in favor???

Somebody fill me in on how you get people to give you the job as a Republican Senator, then just change horses in the middle of the stream...
Is there any other job like that?
Isn't this Dork/Senator supposed to finish the job he was hired to do?
How can a Senator just throw the balance of power so easily?
Should he not be required to finish the term he was elected to as a Republican?
Of course, if it can work for this guy, maybe it can work the other way around.
I don't get it.

Were I to decide that the particular route I was driving "just didn't agree with me", and started to drive the Bus wherever the hell I felt like going, I wouldn't last the day!
I can hear the Coordinator calling my route/run over the PA, then I pick up the handset and he asks, "what is your location and direction of travel?".
My answer, "here and that way..."
Coordinator, " our tracking system shows you are off route; pull over at the next safest location and secure the coach.  Wait for the Supervisor to arrive and follow his instructions."
To which I reply, "ah, 10-4."

I KNOW this type of behavior wouldn't work in my profession.
