My dad is a Chiropractor. It isn't an easy field to be in these days, as the managed care industry isn't interested in drug-free care.
Unfortunately, too many Chiropractors know too little about Chiropractic, and instead do more physical therapy and other non-related "treatments". Some are even trying to prescribe pills!
The only times I've seen a medical doctor is for required physicals (school sports, etc.) and twice to get stitches. I take no prescriptions, and no over-the-counter medicines except a dozen or so tablets of Tylenol a year (during those times when I need an adjustment and my dad is out of town). I missed 5 days of school from K-12 for being sick.
The key, though, is to find the right Chiropractor. That isn't easy, especially when the cirriculum taught in Chiropractic colleges is not entirely accurate, and there are lots of quacks and scam artists who adopt other treatment methods that they can bill more for, regardless of patient health.
Anyway, if done right, it's near-miracle, but that seems to be the exception, not the rule. That's one of the reasons I didn't become one, despite family pressure to do so.
