Does anybody know anything about this round. Is it a real shoulder buster. Is it anygood for deer in the 50 to 100 yards range.

At 100 yards, the biggest Mulie you can find would never know what hit him, or how hard. The .444 rocks. It is on up there with the .45-70 and the likes. Great pig gun too. Not suggested for rabbits.

Maybe I Should just go with a lever action .44 magnum then. I want a big heavy bullet. I want to Rifle to have some fast iron sights. Think about a Lever action Marlin or Winchester. I Guess maybe the .444 marlin round is a little for my use. I hunt deer in Michigan, the area is pretty thick and hilly A I can forget about shot anywhere near 100 yards.

i own a 444 and a 44 (both marlins) and i really dont see that much recoil increase in the 444.
i also bought a 450 in the 18" guide gun so now i am selling the 444SS.  

Don't buy the .444, buy the 45-70!

444 marlin is only loaded by remington.
45-70 is loaded by all the ammo makers including hot Cor-Bon

Hell I just bought 45-70 rounds for my guide gun from "Buffalo Bore" 400 grns, 2000 fps.

Try and get that power out of a 444.

the hottest round you can get out of a 444 is a 240 grn at 2200 fps in comercial loads, go with the old work horse and do like me and challenge the .458 win mag with options like the Buffalo bore bullets.

P.S.  Only the Marlins and browning 1885 lever guns plus modern single shots such as the Ruger No. 1's and brownings should use the hot stuff I describe in 45-70

a buddy of mine just got a 444 marlin in a trade he will probably sell--email me if you're interested--by the way we test fired it and it will kick the crap out of you--a lot worse than any 44mag i've ever shot-except maybe that american arms derringer with full house 44 loads (it had me bleeding in a couple of places)...Dick

I've got a Remington Rolling Block that I had rebarreled from a kit I got from Numrich A rms back in 81. It's a 444, and it kicks a$$. I used it for a antelope hunt in Wyoming and at 200 it took him down lick he got hit by a sledge hammer. I hit him in the shoulder, and you could see through to the other side, like an auger bit was used on it. Very powerful round, but does produce alot of recoil. My Rolling Block has a full 1 1/4 octagonal barrel and it still rocks your world when you touch the round off.

What are you trying to do?  Kill the deer and process the meat with a trigger pull?  You might has well launch a Volkswagon at him.  I'd stick with a .30 cal bullet or smaller.  If you want a good close range weapon, why not a .30-30?  My .30-06 is an overkill on the deer here in SC.  I lose enough meat with it.

If you just want to kill them, buy a old chevy pickup and weld an I-beam on the front and get a six-pack and go hunting!
