Maybe I've been desensitized to eating meat after working with a bunch of Vegetarians, but here goes. In a SHTF situation, everybody seems to be counting on using the enemy for resupply. Why not take it a step further and use them for food as well? .223, 9mil and a delicious roast.

Watch what parts you eat. Most canibalistic tribes get all kinds of deadly diseases like "madcow" and such. There was a tribe that used to eat the brains of dead family members as a supplement to their very low protein diet. There were some ritualistic practices involved too. Ancestor worship etc. But after a few generations of this kind of brain eating canibalism, prions mysteriously developed, spread to all who participated and slowly killed off the rest of the family.

Most cultures have had taboos against eating people. It's one of the fastest ways to spread untreatable disease.

Prior canibalistic peoples had no exposure to modern cooking techniques, and had questionable hygene at best...thats why they died off. So if you're forced to make people-burgers, just cook 'em all the way through!

Prions can't be cooked away, when scientist perform an autopsy on mad cow victims they have to throw away the instruments, tools and everything that touches the dead body. I think it takes something like 11,000 degrees to destoy the protein.

According to a book I read cannibalism was a major disease vector for the plague during the dark ages.

Remember that that whole dark ages thing was the result of an exploding population, big time drought, followed by crop failure, then the banks in Italy failed, then the plague spreads fear and loathing, a medieval SHTF scenario.

Lots of starving people turned to their fellow man, or woman.
