I have a friend who got an old pistol when his father died. It appears to be a black powder weapon that might use some type of cap. The hammer strikes a small hole on top of the cylinder when fired. It appears to be maybe 25 or 32 caliber. There is not a manufacturers name on it anywhere. Can anyone provide any information on this gun and what it might be worth. Thanks guys.

From the pic and what you describe it is a Pin Fire revolver. The round that it shot had a pin protruding from the side of the cartridge next to the rim and the hammer struck this pin whitch in turn struck a priming compound in the cartridge to fire it. These were one of the earliest self contained cartridges.
