the two that come to mind right away is
1:  the air assault on 'apocalypse now' - especially the scene were the brass is just falling out of the chopper as the g.i.'s shoot at the vc below.

2:  the big bank robbery scene in 'heat' was really cool because there was fire disipline and they actually changed mags on their m16a1 carbines.

steve

a disappointing use of m16s was in 'full metal jacket' they kept switching from the japaenese made 'model gun'(i had one of these) m16s to real m16's when ever they were firing.

Gotta go with you on that. The bank robbery scene in Heat was incredible!

Not only was it realistic, but the full auto echoes bouncing off the tall buildings downtown was great. It was just thunderous.

Lets see,
the Matrix [:)](watch closely and you'll see that the SP1's they have don't have mags in them)

In FMJ the M14s were used in training and "in
country" they used the M16s.

The weapons handling for HEAT actors was taught by Andy McNab, a longtime veteran of the 22nd SAS, multimillionaire by now with his books.

For M16A2s and M4s and other U.S issue weapons the upcoming Blackhawk Down movie should provide some good eye candy. It also includes the MH6, AH6 "Little Birds" and UH60 Blackhawks.

Proof of Life

lots of M4s

Why does everyone think 'apocalypse now' was such a gerat movie. IMHO the story line sucked and it was very unrealistic, like the scene when the troops went surfing while the VCs were shooting at them.  Get real...

How did i miss that one, Proof Of Life just premiered here a little over a month ago, nice looking M4A1s, and a M203 on one, carried and used by Crowe, Caruso and mates, very nice M249 SAW handling by a another guy.

Siege of Firebase Gloria with R. Lee Ermey. Lots of M16 action and a little M14 for good measure.

How bout "Predator".  Lot of cool weapons in Predator, seems like an AR was used.  Maybe wrong on that.  Still one of my favorite movies.

Platoon- although I don't think M4s were used in SVN (??), they actually paid attention to the fire discipline and maintenance of the rifles, and showed mag changes. And of course, evil Tom Berenger pulling back on the charging handle and letting it fly, while declaiming to his men, "LOCK AND LOAD!" said it all....

Of course, somebody who was actually there would be the final arbiter of such- I was just a kid in the Viet Nam era.

Only good movie Oliver Stone ever made, BTW.

Not a movie, but I liked the part of the Willie Nelson episode of Miami Vice where they had that LaFrance M-16K in a suitcase... the guy starts assembling it, and then has it mounted in the back of a van on a tripod for a hit.

Let's not forget the semi scene in Terminator II. I really enjoy watching Awnoad pepper that dude with a whole clip from an M-4.

There was one scene where it WAS a toy.  Remember when they found his dead point man? "He got 'em all.  They wouldn't have left THIS!" Just before he smashes it against the tree, look close.  That one is a Mattell.  You can see the "speaker" on the magazine.  And In Platoon, those aren't M-4s, just standard(Not XM177)CAR's.  Still not exactly authentic, but close enough.  Better than one tv "Nam" movie in the 80's where you could see the blank firing adapters painted black.  [sniper]

HEAT 100%, all the way.  on DVD with the sub cranked up, damn.  it is one hell of an impressive sceen.  personally, i think one of the best shooting sceens ever made.  the echo of the shots, the realistic weapon control, etc. after that sceen is over, i have to remind myself to continue breathing.  i mean, i'm getting excited just thinking about it.....  hold on, have to go watch that part real quick....

Heat, definitely.

IIRC, I celebrated getting my AR upper (already had a complete lower, but no upper to shoot with it [:(]) by renting Heat, then watching it while I dissassembled, cleaned, and re-assembled my AR for the first time.  [:D]

Tyler.

I have to go with the bank robbery scene in Heat. With 7k spent on speakers, subwoffers, and amps, it was as close to “real” as I think possible!
