That is not a real x-ray,but it accomplishes it's purpose....to let you see the inner parts of the lower and mag.[:)]

Ed, what kind of pic is it if it's not a real xray? Metal detector? I thought those were Xrays too, though.

It could be a clear plastic receiver just for demonstration,or something similar.
In an X-ray the denser the material the whiter it shows.So metal should be white (like bone),and plastic should be black/gray(like soft tissue).....definitely darker than the metal parts. |

Uh, why can't it be an X-ray with the image reversed? Any scanner with software can do this. Definately an X-ray. With the black/white reversed on this pic, the background around the gun would be black, just like on an X-ray.

Has anyone considered that it may be...a composite upper and lower reciever...or possibly an ultra sound image with the softer alum upper and lower showing clearer and the harder stell as solid?

It’s an x-ray.
Aluminum isn’t the best for stopping x-rays. Note the really black parts are steel and the lighter is the aluminum parts of the receiver. Also note where the aluminum is thicker it’s a little darker, as in the case deflector. |

Nice pic, I saw a similar pic posted here a while back, but it was also just the lower receiver, not the whole weapon. that would be very f-cool if someone could do it. Any docs on board?

Another proud Daddy moment,
I just enlarged the x-ray pic & put it on the wallpaper. My 8 year old daughter walked into the room & said : "COOL!!, an AR15 x-ray". Sometimes life just don't get any better. Look at it's negative. If you have AOL you can click on the picure, hold down and drag it off the web page. Then invert the color. Looks like an X-ray to me.

Is an M16 an automatic AR15?Is feces food that has been digested?Is a picture a negative that has its image reversed? Of course they are....but then they cease to be called one thing and a new name given! [;)] |

EdAvilaSr, I am not talking about its mirror image, that has no effect on the picture what so ever. I am talking about inverting the COLOR, thus the background becomes black and the carrier hammer is white. Soory if I was not clear in the previous post.

It's a great training aid. I've used it to help explain what happens when the bolt carrier is forced back by the gas and what happens when it is forced ahead by the buffer spring. For some strange reason my boss wouldn't let me make a cut away AR15 for this purpose.

The case deflector on an AR-15 is made of aluminum just like the rest of the upper receiver.
