It's kind of what happens when you make something out of plastic that was designed to be made with Aircraft Aluminum.

Yeah, I wouldn't have much use with a polymer lower, especially when 7075 aluminum lowers are so inexpensive.

Would be cool to see a company like EP lowers, use the same molding wrap around technique on an aluminum lower. Maybe they could start out the insert with a block of pot metal or tin or something.

Except that whole "mold around" business is the reason they're under the gun from the atf.

Mine wouldn't fit to my upper. Pin holes were in the wrong spots for the correct alignment. Then I couldn't get the milling to work with the dremmel, all I seemed to be able to do was melt plastic and redeposit it in other spots.

I can't believe all the fuss over these POS's. I mean, has anyone ever actually made one into a working lower?

Out of curiosity could you take some photos of the fracture zone? I'm curious; the failure is about where you'd expect it to occur but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a void or something that probably aggravated the situation.

Also, any details about the firing conditions; temperature of the lower, round fired, quality of the fit of the upper to lower etc. would be interesting.

They are  either good or bad. Smack the stock on the floor twice if it holds it will last.

The forums on EP's own website is full of broken lowers and complaints of misalligned holes. I've been shouting from the rooftops to anyone who will listen about what a crap product EP is.

ETA: Friend ordered 2 and they both were crap.

Too bad Cav arms screwed the pooch, at least they could make polymer lowers without either end deciding to fall off.

Hmmm... how short of a pistol were you running? Thinking extra violent carrier was the issue here.

Eta: using arm brace as a stock could play into this.

Indoor Range (H&H Shooting Sports here in OKC), amb temp about 75deg. cold lower(never been fired), fit was a bit tight but i could still remove the pins easily.

You guys don't get the concept. These polymer lowers aren't meant to actually be fired.

It's like the old joke: A barrel of anchovies was being traded back and forth from one Italian grocer to another. Finally one of them opens the barrel and finds that the anchovies are totally spoiled. He complains to the guy he got it from, and is told that "those anchovies are not for eating; they're for use instead of money. You have just made your 'money' worthless. You should have known better."

The polymer lowers are for display and for making people think you're "tacticool." They're not for actual use.

Therefore I don't get the idea of finishing an "80%" polymer lower into a working gun. Just leave it incomplete and use it for an inert display. Same difference.
