BOSTON (AP) — Jurors in James "Whitey" Bulger's racketeering trial on Thursday were shown machine guns and other weapons from a massive arsenal that investigators say he and his gang owned, as prosecutors attempted to show that Bulger ran a criminal enterprise through violence, intimidation and fear.
Retired state police Col. Thomas Foley identified weapons hidden in several locations during a 2000 investigation, including in a shed behind a South Boston home owned by the mother of Bulger's partner, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi. When investigators searched the shed, they found just one handgun, but later, Flemmi's son led them to a house in Somerville and a storage facility in Florida where investigators say the guns had been moved. http://news.yahoo.com/jurors-bulger-trial-shown-collection-weapons-164305464.html |

I hate to think of what will happen to those. Hopefully, someone will find a way to steer those MP-40s off into a museum collection somewhere, otherwise I think they're going to be made into molten slabs. |

Bulger was an informant since his bankrobbing days (which he did time for on Alcatraz). The FBI became corrupt at the Boston Field Office because the FBI let Whitey's schoolroom classmate John Connolly run the Boston office. Connolly approached Whitey about turning over info on the Patriarca (Italians) family, who was the national objective. Whitey made Connolly feel like a rock star, and that was that. The whole system was corrupt. Bulger's brother was the President Pro Tem of the Mass State legislature. Local cops were scared of both of them, and the state cops were vulnerable to Billy Bulger's political pressure. |

The suppressed M3A1 Grease Gun has to be the best out of lot; sure, the three Schmeissers and the M16A1 are cool, but A SUPRESSED M3A1 GREASE FUCKING GUN.

What kind of cut down AR/M-16 is that in the Florida photos? I don't see any buffer tube, so is it a gas piston conversion?
|
|
How did they get their hands on so many machine guns? Is there that many unazzounted for, or never made it to the registry?

How did they get their hands on so many machine guns? Is there that many unazzounted for, or never made it to the registry? Most of the machine guns that existed in the USA ended up as contraband. Most people didn't have the money or the knowledge to register them, even during the short amnesty periods where registration was free. Also, it was a much different time. Possession of an unregistered machine gun would result in confiscation, and a free gun for the PD at most. In 2013, things are much different despite the law being generally the same. And they are still out there in large numbers. I've seen probably as many contraband MG's as legal ones. As far as a lot of the gangland MG's and sound suppressors that are out there, a lot of them are illegal conversions of open bolt semis, some are built from parts kits from mob associated machine shops in back rooms and outside of business hours. The MP-40's here are probably genuine war bringbacks though. Whitey Bulger is old and so is his gang, and were probably in their possession for quite some time. |
