Good luck. I know it sucks to have pc issues.

I was recently infected when I clicked an unknown link.

I ran ESET and Malware bytes and was able to rid myself of the virus. I had to use rkill to shut it down before ESET would get it though.

To be fair, his browser is redirecting him when he types in a search.

Yeah, did that.  You'll note that many of those links are to other very sketchy looking sites selling tools to remove my problem.  I don't feel like borrowing any more trouble, thanks,

No.  Looks like I'm going to have to edit the registry manually to remove this motherfucker.

IE 10.  It has infected Firefox as well.

Looks like I got it from downloading AdAware.

You read This at the link I provided? Seems like it may be the issue you have.

The problem software is likely to have installed as an ad-on with adaware. Did you check to see if there are any other programs or software that was installed in the same timeframe as adaware?

If there are some they/it may be the culprit.

If your browser is redirecting you,  this indicates the presence of a HOSTS file,  as often as not.

If there is a HOSTS file,  rename it to anything else.  Or delete it.

If you don't know why there is a HOSTS file on your PC, then there should NOT be one.  Delete it.

I use one to block the worst sources of spam ads.

A HOSTS file is used to redirect your browser so that, for example,  you can block specific ad or porno sites from being accessed.

They can also be used to block access to sites that host virus and worm recovery tools and anti-virus software.

On Windows 7 or XP,  the HOSTS file will be located here:

windows\system32\drivers\etc

Open HOSTS (no file extension) using Notepad.

If the file exists, delete or rename it.

Reboot.

Probably the case.  The hunt continues, thanks!

If multiple browsers are affected,  it could easily be a HOSTS file.  Check for it.   If there isn't one,  it's one less thing to worry about.

Something to note is that there will always be a hosts file. It's there when you install a fresh OS. It's only a problem if there are items unrelated to localhost that you didn't add.

Edit: spelling--stupid autocorrect
