Based on something I read in another Walmart Website Ammo thread http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1478182_Walmart_Website_Hiding_Ammo_Stock_Information.html I came up with an idea which I mentioned in that thread. I didn't think I would have time to work on it but I got bored and knocked a proof of concept out. I ended up writting an app, a Windows app right now, that would take a zip code and search all the surrounding stores for all the major ammo product numbers. It spits out an HTML report showing which ammo is in stock in which stores. Walmart doesn't update the information real time and some of their results are several days old. I can pull that date into the report but haven't yet. Here is what the report looks like. All your Walmart Ammo will be mine!!!! i used this app this morning, they had ammo in ashland but I couldnt get there.
its always gone before 8 am. They put it out at 7am. The lady claims there is never a 'line' of people to get it, i find that hard to believe since there is a box limit and its all gone in an hour.

Heck the "follow the trout stocking truck" old guys damn near camp out at my local WW. Must be nice to have that kind of time on your hands to buy something you should have already had.

The app does take awhile to process the request as I have close to 50 product IDs listed and it is has to pull search results from Walmart's site for every product and zip code. I'm not sure what performance a web server would give. Right now it isn't to a point where I could make it available. I just wanted to follow up on the thread from yesterday that it was possible. |

App is a PITA on my Iphone. I have my store of choice selected and saved. I then search for .22 ammunition for example. When I select the box I'm curious bout and select view availability, it times out and I have to enter a zip code or city again. More frustrating than anything!

i just put all the searches in firefox saved bookmarks in a folder on my browser. then right click open all in tabs and bam also lookin for 223, 556, 308 and 7.62

Been trying the app for 2 weeks and yesterday they had Rem 225 packs in stock but not at my local Walmart and didn't feel like driving to be disappointed that it was sold when I got there. Got up this morning and checked the app and it was all gone at the 3 Walmarts that had it yesterday.
 Getting ready for dinner about 5 o'clock today I checked, and it showed my local Walmart had the 225 packs in stock.Got my old man to go with me fast and they had four boxes and we bought all 4.  Seems the sales guy was mad we took them all because he had them hidden behind the 3 box limit sign so you had to look to see them,probably had a buddy or his wife coming to get them and we beat him to it . TL/DR - The app worked . Mini score.  |

I was passing a Walmart on the way home from work yesterday. About 10 miles away, I ran the Walmart app and it showed both 22lr and 45ACP in stock. I checked again while i was in the parking lot, still showed in stock
I rushed into the store, went to the ammo case....and not a round could be found....except for shotgun shells. I waited around for an employee to ask but there were none in sight.I left the store and when I was leaving the parking lot, I checked again and they were still showing in stock. This is the second time the app was wrong. I'm not bothering with that anymore

It shouldn't be that hard to be correct.
When product arrives at the store, it gets scanned in and then the count is uploaded to the website. When it sells, it gets scanned out and the count on the website is lowered. Employees are hiding it...

I'm sure the inventory is tracked real time internally, but it just isn't updated on the website in real time. I doubt their website was designed with demand like this in mind. Not many people are looking to sprint to walmart and buy up everything the instant it shows up in the store. |

The Walmart app has absolutely NEVER been right for me, running both ways, showing things in stock that are not, but also not showing things in stock that actually are. |

I just got back from running to Walmarts in 4 different counties. After work I printed off the report for my area and headed out.
First stop was a small town. Around 4pm this afternoon they started appearing on the report as having some ammo in stock. I got there and the shelves were bare. An older lady came by and told me that if it wasn't on the shelf they didn't have it. I wasn't buying her story but there was nothing I could do. Second stop was another small town. They had 2 types of ammo showing up as Limited Stock. As I walked in I saw a guy walking out with 3 boxes of 22. I looked at their shelves and they were empty. I asked the cashier about ammo and he said someone went into the back to look for some. He came back with 2 100 round boxes of 40 and 1 box of 22s. Third stop is known as GhettoMart. The report shows five different calibers In Stock. I get there and the shelves are bare and not a sole working. They did have a sign up that said ammo sales start at 7am and the line can start forming at 6am. Fourth stop had one item In Stock and one item Limited Stock. The Limited Stock was Federal Hyrdoshok 45s. I saw a box of them sitting on the shelf. The other item was not there. No employees to be found at that store either. Fifth stop is back at my local store. The mobile app showed 9mm in stock. My app wasn't showing it as being in stock. I got there and asked the guy about it. He said he had been there since 1pm and they had no 9mm all day. I just ran the report again and my app is showing it as being in stock. So it might be possible that the ammo is on a truck and will be available tomorrow morning. I guess that means I need to get up at 6am and wait in line so that I can find out. The guy at my local store said a line forms every morning so it appears that most ammo is snatched up at 7am and Walmart's online apps are not real time so they show items in stock that are sold out. |

Tried it today...showed Winchester .22 555 in stock.
After speaking with the manager I left pissed as he said it wasn't in the store. Was it? Who fucking knows... Did score a WWB 100 .45 And two American Eagle AR.223 The .45 and .223 showed not in stock. |

I've been playing around with things a little and doing a little more hacking of Walmart's apps. The mobile website using and displays different data than their Android app. The Android App exposes a lot more detail including price. But with more details comes more programming to extract the necessary data. So I will be looking at that. I have to figure out what JSON is and how to read it in C#. Even with the new direction that I'm going the whole real time inventory is still going to be an issue.
