I have people telling me if I do not enroll my wife and me in a healthcare plan that we will be penalized on our taxes next year.  My employer does offer healthcare for about 15% of my gross pay.  My employers healthcare plan sucks balls.  $300/ year for office visits, no prescription plan, $1000 limit on surgeries.  I do not understand this retarded law at all.  Am I able to get healthcare from somewhere else cheaper?

I don't think you read the part about limits correctly.

Call and ask.  If you don't get an answer, call back an hour later to check on them.  Repeat every hour.  You'll get an answer within two days.

I enrolled in private plan, there are some decent inexpensive ones out there. My company offers 3 plans 2 are limited plans the don't meet the requirements of Zero Care, the third is the BC and BS in California that just jacked up their rates up 30%. So I decided I could not afford $400 a month, for a single person like myself in good shape that rarely goes to the doctor. I went with a local BC and BS, for about $100 a month. Also I would just like to say Fuck you Obama for fucking the working class over again, not only does the SS tax take 10% more, but I also am forced to pay a corporation for over priced insurance that climbs 10-30% a year, so fuck you.

This is where the $20k came from.  IRS guidance suggests that's what a bronze plan (the cheapest) will cost a family of 5.  http://www.irs.gov/PUP/newsroom/REG-148500-12%20FR.pdf

And, yeah.  You'd have to be a complete moron to buy the insurance, even if the penalty was $10,000.

I assume the employer has to be the party/person on the overall policy but I do not know how much either party "has" to pay.

It seems like it might be wise to have some sort of high-deductible catastrophic-only coverage to keep you from getting cleaned out by a sudden emergency, but yeah, this is a good idea if you and your family are healthy.  Its is far cheaper to pay cash for flu shots at Walgreens and cash for the occasional sports physical and then just pony up the "shared responsibility payment."  Then when someone gets sick they get insurance.

It is almost like the system is designed to fail so we can experience the joy of socialist single payer medicine.

My employer pays 100% of employees health care and 50% of family coverage. I am quite surprised we still have it up through this year at least.

Personal insurance will be from about 150 to 500 per month, depending on your age and current health, for a high deductible, (2000$ or higher), major medical plan that you could buy on your own.  If you don't think you'll be sick and are willing to take the risk, I'd pay the fine and just settle for the free healthcare.  Keep in mind, when the docs and hospitals find out they'll have to get paid through the gov, you'll be the last person called in the waiting room.

Therefore, under paragraph (b)(1) of this section, the monthly penalty amount is $200 (the greater of $173.75 ($2,085/12) or $200 ($2,400/12)).

(iii) The sum of the monthly penalty amounts is $2,400 ($200 x 12). The sum of the monthly national average bronze plan premiums is $20,000 ($20,000/12 x 12). Therefore, under paragraph (a) of this section, the shared responsibility payment imposed on H and J for 2016 is $2,400 (the lesser of $2,400 or $20,000).

I just re-read these and they've messed up on section 3. Unless I'm mistaken it shows the monthly average as the yearly. Who proofreads this shit?

im taking the penalty, it is cheaper and not something i find as repugnant as cooperation with this shit any farther than keeps me out of jail

to add my wife to my health plan it would be 21% of my net pay every two weeks...
