Because they don't make 300 round mags to buy, BITCH! Probably didnt do much to help our cause, but she was hardly one that can be reasoned with with this regard anyway. Besides, it felt good saying it...............

probably would of been better to ridicule her with the stupidity of the question itself, say "because the don't make a 300, what a stupid question to ask, you might as well ask why sports car enthusiast need so much horsepower"

300 round magazines will be quite heavy and the magazine catch spring may need to be strengthened.

I usually say nicely that it's none of their business go about my business.

The best answer I've found is just relating to something they own.
Why do you need a vehicle that seats more people than live in your household? Why do you need a vehicle that can go faster than the speed limit? Why do you need alcohol with a higher % of alcohol than a beer or glass of wine? Why do you need a computer faster than the use you intend for it require? Why do you need a purse that costs more than a cheap walmart one? And so on... As long as I am not breaking the law or have a record of it, why should it matter what I privately own? |

The same reason you buy fork truck battries to run your dildo, it feels good Bitch

lip tard? The "B" and the "P" arent even near one another on the keyboard. I think it might be a different word even.

Because drums are heavy and have reliability issues, 20 too small...yeah 30 rounds just right during riots and civil unrest.
Ask her why she NEEDs a vehicle that can go over 65 mph? Why does she NEED anything other than the cheapest POS vehicle? Why does she NEED anything outside the basic necessities for life? Because she WANTS them. |

Then you have to go into how they SAVE lives, are an equalizer for self defense of a smaller, weaker person, minority, cops use them to save lives, etc |

My wife is having a fit over me stocking up but it's not like I'm filling the garage or anything ridiculous .... It's been BAD going on worse for a really long time on a lot of things. Feels like it's nearing the time to start reaching for the handles.. Crap I hate thinking of that.

You should find a copy of "How To Win Friends and Influence People."
Did you really call her a bitch?

I had someone ask me that not to long ago. I said "do the math, the 30 round mag is more cost effective than the 20, 60, or 100. The cost of storage for a 30 round is about $.41, the cost for a 20 round is $.57, the cost of a 60 round mag is $1.51, and the cost of storage of the 100 round drum is $2.64.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which this could possibly occur, and I live near Chicago. Quite serious about this, cannot imagine the scenario.
However, having now had the chance to think about it my response will be "Why do you ask?" Any subsequent conversation will consist of me doing the interrogation. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

To paraphrase a quote I read somewhere before
"I can think of dozens of reasons not to have a gun (or 30 round mags) but it's that one reason I haven't thought about which is why I own a gun (or 30 round mags)" |
|
If you can get them to accept armed self defense, you can get them to look beyond mere capacity.
When the media talks about capacity, they are assuming every bullet in capacity is a yet unrealized murder victim. That's simply not the case. Are police mass murderers in the U.S.? Almost every cop I know has an AR-15 semi-auto as their patrol rifle. They carry what works best to stop threats to life. The AR is more gun than a pistol. More ammo capacity is just having even more gun. The gun is an equalizer and not all bad guys go down with one shot. Many times there are more than one bad guy. If you live anywhere near the border, you NEED an AR-15 and multiple standard capacity (30rd) magazines. Once you get them to accept armed self defense, mag capacity becomes an arbitrary argument because they already accept armed self defense. You can win these kinds of arguments. However, if the person in question doesn't even accept armed self defense you're pumping a dry well anyway. Try persuading anyway. These types are usually emotional, the protecting the family argument is one of the strongest. |

If you actually did call her a "BITCH!" - and I doubt that you & your internet bravado actually did - but if you did, then you're probably not very bright to begin with. However, you are right about not helping "our" cause; regardless of how easily you think she could be reasoned with, or how it made you "feel". Next time you want to help our cause, go do something else instead. |

Comparing the Second Amendment, or self defense, or government tyranny to household goods and consumable items like a glass of wine or a purse is silly - and most of the anti-gun people know it. If people expect to be taken seriously when promoting the 2A then they need to be able to carry on a conversation in an intelligent, relevant way. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1404898_Why_does_anyone_need_30_round_magazines_.html |

I use similar analogies when they ask about buying 1000s of rounds of ammo at a time. To the non-gun owner that sounds excessive. Then I ask them "Do you buy liquor in those small bottles, or 1/5 of a gallon at a time?" People seem to get that one.
I'm also not rude about it. No reason to make enemies if we can make friends. If non-gun owners see our logic then we have a potential ally. If we piss them off then they might support bans. |
|
The car analogy also seem to work. "Why yes, modern sporting rifles are the sports cars of the gun world, but limiting the HP in your WRX won't cut down on DUIs would it?"
