http://www.kvoa.com/news/drivers-go-through-checkpoint-at-redington-pass/#!prettyPhoto/0/ Drivers go through checkpoint at Redington Pass TUCSON - Redington Pass visitors had to go through a Forest Service checkpoint Saturday. Forest and National Park rangers along with the Arizona Game and Fish Department made sure visitors followed the law. People legally shoot firearms in areas next to the main road. Many of them leave their empty cartridge casings and targets on the ground. "You come out here to shoot," Shephard Luke said, "and it just ruins the sport, makes a gun owner look bad." Law enforcement stopped about 250 vehicles, reminding shooters to pick up their trash. A driver admitted shooting, but did not have the empty casings. A Game and Fish officer turned him around and told him to pick up his empty rounds. |

I wouldn't call that harassed. If you want to leave brass laying around, shoot on your own property.
|
|
Same rules as camping. If you bring trash in, you bring it back out.
|
|
its everywhere..
shooters leaving their trash........ but LEO being ROs.... |
|
Sounds more like they were doing their job efficiently, instead of ignoring a problem, or running around handing out tickets.
|

It's not just the brass...it's the efen tv's and crap that the aholes leave...
I'm a dirt shooter and see that crap all the time. It's only a matter of time before the NF becomes off limits to shooting. |

I'm pretty ok with making shooters pick up their casings on public property.

Mommy isn't doing sweeps of the national park cleaning up after you. |

If that's the case, then I've harassed and insulted shooters for years.

Having done a mass clean up at Reddington pass and seeing the tons of shot up crap we pulled out of there, all I can say is GOOD!!!!
Fuck yes, we need to be taught to clean up our shit. |

Trashy mother fuckers need to clean up after themselves. Oh wait, this is America where the same guys that scream about freedom take no responsibility for their actions.

Did they ask them to pick up the lead, too?
I can see the logic of the argument of "it's litter and should not be left on the ground" ... but only from an aesthetic standpoint. Until it oxidizes, it kind of stands out. And who wants to go walk around in a national park that looks like a driveby shooting just happened in 15 minutes ago? Realistically, I can't see how spent brass cases would actually hurt the environment. It's just copper and zinc. |
|
Why are there National Forest Service checkpoints in Arizona? Are there any actual forest areas there?
|
|
The only people who have a problem with this are people who haven't been to Redington Pass. Stupid morons have trashed the place.

As someone who lives, shoots, and pays taxes here, all I can say is: Bout Fuckin Time.
People from other states have little idea of what these popular shooting spots can be like. They're more active than Ben Avery. The only other option is that some get completely trashed, are shut down, and the very nice and less well known spots get flooded by the masses. No thank you, please continue enforcing the law. |

I live pretty close to the pass and never shoot there. It's embarrasing to see all the trash and worse, gang bangers tossing trash in the air and shooting it like it's clay pigeons.
I take my dune buggy out there and am very careful around mile post 6 because you never know what some mental midget is up to around the bend. The brass isn't a problem, there is usually and enterprising guy there who asks to pick up the brass( at about 2$ per lb he does ok) but the garbage, from appliances to building material is awful. So good for the FS for making folks do the right thing. |
|
Regardless of where I shoot, I always pick up my brass, targets and any other trash that resulted from my shooting. It's common courtesy. Forest rangers should make sure people pick up their brass and any other garbage. Of course this shouldn't go just for shooters, anyone who uses public land should pick their shit up when they leave!

Shot thousands of rounds there in college.
75$/1000 wolf The ground was nearly all shells, even back then. I always tried to pick up whatever we brought plus more. There was usually garbage all over. |
|
They've been doing that for a long time. A few years back I shot there every weekend. The FS would pull up, we'd clear our weapons and then the officer would ask us what we're shooting (i.e. did you bring that washing machine...). We'd say "our steel target," he'd ask us to police our trash when we're done and wish us a good day. They were all very nice and respectful, and frankly they were very reserved given the amount of dumb shit that shooters did out there.
They'd been threatening to close the area to shooters for quite awhile. |

I used to shoot there all the time and i cleaned my shit up when i was done

The BLM has closed one area already to recreational shooters in my county because of the trash (Fridges, TVs, pallets, washing machines, etc). Complete mess. They are now considering closing two other areas because fuck heads can't police up their shit. Those are the only two BLM areas left to shoot.
