i am hereby formally requesting that this abhorrent word be purged from ARFCOM vernacular.

I roll my eyes every time I hear it outside of a mocking, "tier 1" joke context. Seriously.

OR, if the word is too dear to ban, allow us to formally define it in terms of a shooter's/cop's/soldier's qualifications and credentials. Otherwise, it will continually be abused as a way to reference any asshole who's taken a shooting class.

Fine by me.  Unless I am referring to the Jim Croce song of the same title, I don't use that term.

What if we really are an "Operator", and choose to refer to ourselves in the third person?

Operator Skg_Mre_Lght requests that we look a little deeper into this matter?

To easy to confuse with Vagina...we can't be referring to Operators as "Grilled Cheese Sammiches".

I also never used the term "technicals" to describe improvised war vehicles when I was in the Army.  I called them "War Wagons"

i think the term actually originates from the desire to refer to delta force, etc., with purposefully ambiguous titles.

anymore it's just fucking gay and overused

I support this.

Operator should only apply to professional gunfighters and people who perform technical and specialized combat support functions outside the wire (recon, intel, special ops medics, eod etc)

Who is NOT an operator:
-Line infantry
-SWAT cops (possible exception if the dept is big enough for a full time team)
-Federal LEOs that are not members of HRT or NEST
-Regular cops with a trunk full of shit they don't need but it was "free" thanks to a grant
-Guys who take tactical training as a hobby but haven't actually done anything
-Guys who teach tactical training but haven't actually done anything
