I wonder if that's how he really lost his arm, or if he just used some 'artistic license?'

If that is how he lost his arm, then it is one of the most badass tattoos out there - worthy of a pirate.

I remember a Nightline episode that was focussed on amputees from The Global War on Terror. The reporter was following them around while they were doing some Wounded Warrior programs. Long story short one of the most patriotic unsung Heros that I have ever seen was being interviewed. During the interview he mentioned that he had gotten a Tattoo to commemorate the amputation. When asked if the reporter could see the tattoo said Soldier lifted his pant lag to reveal the 'half scissor - do not cut below this line' that is on a lot of DA and DD forms. When the soldier was asked: If he would change anything in his life what it would be? His reply was that he would change nothing. The follow up question of: Knowing everything now would you do it over again? His reply: A thousand Times. That is a truly bad ass tattoo.
