FLINT (WJRT) ––
(07/10/10) –– Flint's fire department is investigating two suspicious fires  this weekend.

One fire destroyed two homes and damaged a third.

Just moments before that fire, firefighters were on the scene of another and  say that blaze is also suspicious.

"This is unbelievable, and thank goodness it's not ours," said Lou-Anne Malis  who lives near the fire on Lewis Street.

Fire investigators say a suspected arsonist is to blame for that fire early  Saturday morning.

"I hope they catch him whoever it is before it happens again," she said.

The
fire in the 13000 block of Lewis Street destroyed two abandoned homes
and  damaged a third house that was occupied. The flames lit up the sky,
spreading  debris throughout the east side neighborhood.

"Pieces of black ashes on my yard," Malis said.

The
fire started at this home in the middle and spread south to a second
housed. Crews were able to save a third structure, but not before it was
 damaged.

Just moments before the Lewis Street fire, fire crews put out a fire at a  house on the corner of Lyon Street And 5th Avenue.

"I guess it was just beautiful and they were just going to restore it," Malis  noted.

According
to Battalion Chief Theresa Root the two fires Saturday morning  bring
the fire count to six in less than four days. All are suspected arsons.
"Usually we might get a fire or two and they're usually vacant, so it
has  accelerated and it's still not slowed down all the way."

"It's heartbreaking, and I've been here for 45 years and it's just not the  same anymore," Malis said.

Malis worries her home could be the next target. "I just hope they don't  cross over the park and get my house."

No one was hurt in any of the fires.

Both are still under investigation.

There are a lot of rumors about these being set by a disgruntled fireman

When the layoffs first happened didn't they have a bunch of fires in one day? Something like 9 or 10?

Yes they did.   According to the article there has a couple fires a day since then too.

The talk I keep hearing is that it is a pissed off fireman, they can't catch him though.

This has been Michigan's process of urban renewal for decades now.
