Looks like it went in his head and exited out through his chin?

I wonder the position of the shooter to the shootee was to get an entrance and exit wound in those positions.
|
|
Its happened with many calibers...
.223 and .45 come to mind. But statistically speaking. This guy is the .0001% who survived such a blow, by a total freak-luck opportunity. Without immediate medical attention this man would be Done... and 99.999% of the time... a 5.45x39mm (as well as most calibers) to the head would have killed that man instantly. He is lucky to say the least. |

Attempted suicide , barrel to chin facing upwards and pulled the trigger.

I would find it hard to believe that IF the shooter and the man being shot were faced towards each other and at any distance greater then point blank that the projectile could not have acted in such a manner. I'm really curious to know how he was shot. |

It looked like a failed suicide. Lucky he didn't try it with a shotgun. http://depletedcranium.com/james_vance.jpg I would agree with that. |

people survive headshot wounds all the time, it's not magic or a miracle.
hell, in Iraq, a guy in our unit got hit in the head by a sniper and survived and fully recovered. The bullet just can't hit a vital part of the brain. |

His personality was a bit...off...afterwards...but very much alive and well. Apparently kept playing with the hole in his head on the way to the hospital in the IZ... |

Maybe he put it under his chin and pulled the trigger. Thats what I'm thinking. With that angle, if the shooter was above him, I think it would have exited his chin and hit him in the chest, or abdomen. |
|
Quoted: How is that consious? What about hydrostatic shock? The brain is kinda stretchy and can actually take "hydrostatic" shock pretty well. It can resist trauma better than you think. hydrostatic shock is mostly over-rated anyway. |
|
You know, I don't think I want to see the effects of a 5.45x39mm round right now.
|
|
Proves that its always about shot placement, regardless if ur shooting 22lr,9mm or 5.45x39.
moral of story, if you want to off yourself aim back not up |

10 year old kid got caught in a cross fire in a-stan and took a 7.62X54 to the head.
Lost his eye, but otherwise fine. Crazy shit happens |
|
I'd guess he tilted his head back at the last minute. Looks like the bullet went through the sinus cavity and out the forehead. He's gonna have one hell of headache.
No hydrostatic shock because .... there isn't a high water content in the area the bullet hit. Doc |
|
My sister-inlaw is a doctor and we were talking one time about people surviving brain trauma etc. She said that the base of the brain (brain stem) is the area that controls the vital functions of the body (breathing etc). So it is possible to take trauma to the upper brain and survive. The upper brain controls what could be called non-vital functions like taste, smell etc.

Were I to take a wild guess at this, from the guy's appearance, I'd say "Trainee or recruit resting chin on muzzle of loaded AK, possibly in the back of a truck, and this is the end result...".
I don't know how many times I had to smack guys in the US Army around, who did the same thing with their M16s. There's just something so totally "natural" about using that thing as a chin rest, when you're riding around in the back of a truck. It's just the right height, and too many guys forget the potential, especially in training environments where you don't have live ammo most of the time. If I was still in, this video would make its way into some of my training presentations... |
|
Yeah, def a suicide attempt cause the guy is speaking russian and he points to his chin and says One prolly meaning entry point and then points to his forehead and says two which probably means exit point.

Remember the couple of Mensa members that tried to kill themselves with a 12ga after being "mind-controlled" by listening to Judas Priest. One of them ended up looking like a fucked up alien. IIRC they even sued the band... |

An intentional self inflicted at the chin, would have had the muzzle blast blow his head off. If any thing, he was standing with weapon, bounced butt of weapon on ground. Close enough projo didn't have time to yaw, far enough away to not get powder burns.

Makes my broken femur when I was his age not look so bad now.

luckily for him it wasn't 7.62x39
Same thing could have happened with 7.62x39mm that's not really the issue. |

Maybe he put it under his chin and pulled the trigger. this. the chin up the sinus cavity skitrted around the forhead. looks like a suicide attempt. i have seen tons of those with similar injuries in all kinds of calibers |

Quoted: Quoted: luckily for him it wasn't 7.62x39 Same thing could have happened with 7.62x39mm that's not really the issue. 5.45 is essentially .223 .223= 5.56 (basically) 7.62 is greater than 5.56 Which is better AR or AK? |

Hell, really a bullet is no different than a bat to the skull if it doesn't penetrate. |

The dancing traffic cop on the same site would be my choice for a pleasant Sunday viewing.

Maybe he put it under his chin and pulled the trigger. That's my guess. The forehead wound loks like an exit. |

Not a lot of crucial structures there.
