What's Arfcom's general consensus on the .460 Rowland?

I'd never heard of it until today.

It's 45 ACP loaded to pressures found in 40 S&W 10mm etc.

ETA: The case is lengthened just enough not to chamber in 45 ACP guns.

Horrible idea, concept, and execution

Yeah I bought one

Factory Ammo (if you can call it that) would split cases and give you a really short 45 and then a sleeve of brass - on a regular basis

Pistol was sent to the factory and came back worse than it was sent in

Parts now set in my junk pile

I will admit to not having first hand experience, but I've heard it can be rough on frames when used in 1911-style weapons. I'd like to give it a try, though.

It doesn't seem to me like it has any real advantage over a .44 Magnum revolver in any application that it's likely to see use.

Except for 2-3 extra rounds and faster reload times, you're probably correct.

ETA) I wasn't being sarcastic. I heard it beats the frame of the pistol it's mounted on pretty bad. It's a great idea, and if they refine it some more, I'll order one myself.

I love the idea, and have snooped alittle, but have no practical knowledge of it.

I think the plus is you get .44 mag-type performance in an M1911 platform... which is desirable too me.

Also it's not as close to 44mag is they would lead you to think

Brutal. It only functions in the 1911 due to the highly effective compensator which slightly tames the violence.

A much better solution is the .45 Super. This is a fully supported .45 ACP with suitable recoil spring. 200 grain JHP at 1250 FPS isn't too shabby.

It's a compromise for sure... or you could just carry a Desert Eagle...

I have read that fairly consistently. The power isn't really what they say it is, and the bullet weights are on the low side.

The SW 4506 would be a good host gun for a .460 kit. I don't think one is made for it though...damn shame cause the 4506 is built like a brick shit house covered in Stainless Steel.

To each his own, and I'm glad people are interested in things like this, but in my opinion, it's just another boutique caliber produced by talented gunsmiths strutting their stuff.

Maximum Average Pressure is: 45 ACP (21,000 PSI), .45 ACP +P (23,000 PSI), .45 Super (28,000 PSI), .460 Rowland (40,000 PSI).
