from what I was told it wasnt anti-gun, it was against the people who use guns to murder mass amounts of innocent people. Dont blame the hammer, blame the carpenter.

I saw it in Iraq and immediately came under fire by two soldiers for being a gun nut. I thought the whole time I was watching it about the UN's "total civil disarmament" policy and that Rebecca whats-her-name harpy that debated Wayne Lapierre. I felt it portrayed guns as an evil, and I stand by that assessment. Lots' of nice gun porn in the movie, but overall I feel that it portrayed guns negatively. Sorry.

an anti gun flik...... yeah it was. i actually liked the movie cause i looked past all the blatant anti gun bullcrap. especially nicholas cages little speech on the ak47.
its so easy a child can use it, and they do. it sucks that retarded people will probably give me more shit for being a gun afficianado after watching this flik, but i really dont care what they think. |

It wasn't really anti-gun or pro-gun. I liked though at the end they showed that it didn't matter who sold the weapons, the violence against the africans in the tent refuge was caused by the attackers and not their AKs they just bought. that's what I got out of the movie. Or that human violence will always be here and there will always be someone to supply the weapons for it.

Yep, it was absolutly NOT anti-gun, it was kinda lib in that it got into the struggles of several nations with different groups and how some of them were oppressed, and it got into a lot of poly sci stuff if you look closely, but I wouldn't call it anti gun at all.
No knock at all to the threads author, but to those who think it is anti gun, you need to look a little deeper. |

I wathed it twice in the past 3 days. I'm actually going to buy it too.
I see how people will get the anti-gun message from it. But at the same time, it's really not political, it's almost a documentary. Librerals will call what the US, Britain, France, China, and Russia do, evil. Nothing is going to change that. But the facts remain, these are the biggest arms dealing countries n the world. And sometimes the "middle men" are needed to accomplish what can't be done openly by the gov't. So be it. The truth is what it is. My wife, who is a recovering Democrat, watched it with me last night. And she came more on board with the RKBA issue from it. And at the end, she actually said "how can they get away with doing that?" <the part where it lists the 5 major suppliers of arms, and notes how they are the permanent members of the UN Security Council> Well honey, it's like this: Wars and conflict are good for business, all the way down to pork barrel spending. The goods will get where they need to get because money and power are involved. |

It wasn't anti-gun, it was anti-assholes-who-use-the-gun-for-killing-other-people. How many of you criticising it have actually seen it? I thought it was an interesting movie, and I hate Nicholas Cage. And no, I'm not even close to bieng a liberal when it comes to guns.

At one point I hated bowling for Columbine. Well, actually I still do. But at least I finally saw it.
Just like Lord of War, it gives different messages to different people. The "liberals" are always going to blame the gun, no matter how you frame the movie. Columbine, for me, at least got the message across that Canadians have almost as much access to guns, albeit more regulated than we do, and they have less shootings. What you take from a message like that isn't going to change. You're either pro-gun, or you're anti. The facts remain the same though. Arms sales by govt's, and shootings by everyday Joe's are statistics. Statistics, like guns, are merely tools. It's the people who have agendas that work the tools. |

It definitely had a lot of anti-gun allegory in it, and it did try to deliver a veiled anti-gun message (not so veiled when you read the ending paragraphs).
BUT, I really enjoyed the movie...hell, I went to bed wanting to become an International arms dealer. The gun and weapon and vehicle and plane pron was GREAT. It depends what viewpoint you watch it from.... As for people thinking I'm a gun nut....fuck 'em I don't care. I am, so what. Some people are car nuts, some people are porn nuts, some people are booze or drug nuts...as long as my particular vice doesn't hurt anyone, the world can kiss my ass.... The director is a VERY anti-gun liberal, so you know where he was coming from, although I feel it may have backfired on him a bit....I made the mistake of buying the single disc, I didn't know there was a two disc version...to anyone who has the two discer....is it worth getting it? Oh, and I will take 6 of those T-72's....and my free 7th too..... |

Sure, different messages for different people...BUT read the threag in General about how the UN wants your guns....one of the people involved in the story is the director of Lord of War, so regardless of the message received from the movie...his bent is absolutely anti-gun, gun grabber.
Still doesn't change the fact I liked the movie on many different levels.... |

I liked it. As said many times in this thread, you need to look at it a little more in depth if you think it's anti gun. It was anti violence. That was proved when the woman and child were killed outside of the tent city. It showed that the people in the tents were going to be killed, be it from a knife or an AK. At the end, when he's "saved" from jail from the Marine, Cage's speach about how the US uses him to supply when they don't want their fingerprints on the goods shows that while he is "evil", he is a vidal part of the vicious cycle.
I think it's a great movie. Anyone who thinks it's anti gun didn't get it. |

For me, this movie was nothing more than propaganda, with very little entertainment value. I don't mind if a movie tries to educate the viewer, as long as it does so with some attempt at subtlety. Oh, and Nicolas Cage sucks.

I did enjoy how Cage completely pwn3d Ethan Hawke at the end. Hell, it was worth it just to watch the opening credits. Was it lib propoganda at its worst? Sure. I like how they tried to tie in the murder of her parents to the gun dealers. (If they could have, they would have blamed bush) My question would have to be why at a certain level they would even touch the merchandise themselves. Throwing away his son's toy gun, how gay was that? Silly propoganda. Hell, how many people posting were trying to figure out how to get into the business? |

I bought the DVD last weekend and watched it Saturday night. I do believe there is plenty of anti-gun sentiment in it but there is also a lot more to the movie than that. I will watch it several more time. Will it turn me into an anti-gun moonbat ? No. It did make me think about the mentality that it takes to create something like Baptiste's "Kalashnikov Kids".
On a lighter note, everytime it switched to one of the scenes of fighting in Africa I found myself looking for the "cockroach shooter" from the GD thread with the Monrovia pictures. Also the gold-plated AK was the gheyest gun I have seen in a while. |

The movie is actually sort of a metaphor for the typical gun nut, but with one part reversed.
Cage sells guns Wife gets mad Cage stops Cage starts Wife leaves him Compare to: gunnut buys guns wife gets mad gunnut stops gunnut starts wife leaves Eh, I found that amusing. I didn't get a strong antigun vibe from it. There were some parts. |
