You really don't have any idea on what you want, do you? You bounce around from cars to trucks, Infiniti to Ford, and so on.

they have a rouche racing f150 and mustang there. also have a shelby gt waiting for someone. I don't doubt the speed, but its way too expensive for me. |

but, they are fords?!?
Go back to the tundra, probably get better gas mileage & the truck won't break in year 1. |
I used to be that way. But then I bought my 528i BMW. Now it's much easier. TXL |

Why does this BS always pop up. I had two Ford Expeditions, and the inside was very nice for a UTILITY VEHICLE and sure held up better than anything from Japan or Europe. I have seen some used Fords and BMWs with around 50K and the insides were shot. Just depends on who bought them and how they treated them. Mine looked new at 120K. As far as the Ford drive trains go. Their pushrod/rear drive stuff is still some of the most rugged and dependable out there, a lot of there other stuff comes from Japan or Europe so I would probably stay away from it. My only suggestions, NEVER FINANCE THROUGHT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD DEALERSHIPS SUCK. Go to your bank and get a loan. All of this is coming from someone who hated Fords. |

I have a 97 F150 that looks better than new, inside and out and has over 165,000 miles on it. I also have an 03 Mustang GT, that also looks new, inside and out. The reason Mustang don't come with IRS, is IRS is crap for drag racing. The majority of Mustang owners that mod theor cars are into drag racing and the live axle works much better. Cars with live axles are also cheaper to produce, thus giving the customer a lower purchase price. |

My GF has an Edge and it is a fantastic vehicle...Everyone else who I run in to with one loves it as well...
must be talking bout the Toyota.... |
My dad's '97 F250 has almost 200,000 miles on it with nothing more than wear items and basic maintenance. An alternator, about three sets of brakes, and I need to build the suspension on it - it's all original, just as delivered in '97. Mom had a '95 Taurus that had 152K on it before she sold it, again with nothing more than wear items and basic maintenance; I put an alternator and a radiator in it, and a few sets of brakes. Before that, she had an '88 Tempo that made it to 240K-something before the engine locked up, due to lack of maintenance; I think it would have made it to 300 if it was taken care of. She now has an '05 Expedition with 45K on it, again, with just basic maintenance and wear items. My '04 F150 has 72K miles on it with nothing more than wear items and basic maintenance. Get outta here with that stupid shit. Fact of the matter is nowadays, it's really hard to get a lousy vehicle from any manufacturer. Possible, absolutely, just not very likely assuming the owner upholds their end of the bargain and takes care of the vehicle. |

I have yet to see a toyota hold up like a well built ford.
I am not saying all fords are well built, but some are. Its also funny that you criticize Ford, yet praise Japanese cars. Do you realize how many Fords or Ford engines come from Japan, designed in Japan and built with Japanese parts? I could go on about the really shitty parts in Toyotas, designed and built by Japanese and how we Americans are being asked to build the parts for them becuase they cant. We cant really do it, until we bring the design up to standard though and I dont think they will let us. Dam shame considering what the part is. |

01 Ford Supercrew, runs like a champ. I have done moderate modifications to the truck and still no problems worth mentioning. I would personally start with Ford when I am in the market for a new truck in 5 years or so. I do notice how people jump on the foreign bandwagon with trucks, and within a couple of years the come back and say it was never as good as they hoped it would be, then they by domestic again. You can easily get a lemon with any manufacturer, that is why I like low milage used vehicles for purchase, less depreciation, still a warranty, and the lemons are out of the market by then. Personally, I think the toyota was designed by a blind person. The front is respectable, yet the rear door handle is an afterthought on the crew cabs. In addition the rear door window looks horrible with the small glass. Maybe toyota can get it right next time.

Just got a great offer (for me)
24 months 459/month, 2400 total out of pocket incl first month. comes out to $12,957 total for two years. Lets me get a big truck with most of the features I want (ok, no sliding rear window!) Drive AMERICAN (worth a premium to me, not alot, but this is certainly within range) and lets me minimize my commitment should my needs change in 2 years, a strong possibility. How do you 'only buy' folks approach this one? My other options right now are a used Q45 2002 with 60K miles and every option for ~13K or a 2002 Armada with every option and only 6K miles for ~16K. important to me = minimize my commitment to a car that will almost certainly not fit my needs in two years. :-) but that I really want now. |
I dont understand how you are willing to spend 540 bucks a month to rent a car. If your needs are changing that frequently buy some POS car for 1500 bucks until you know what you want.
Question for you. On leased vehicles do you still pay for the maintenance I will probably never buy another new car again. I bought a Excursion in 05 and as much as I love the truck it really has lost a lot of value even before the fuel prices skyrocketed. If I sold it right now I would throw away thousands of dollars. |
I pay 0 maintenance on leased vehicles.
turns out this was just another ford salesman ploy. said it was only good today as prices ... get ready for it.... not yet.... here it comes.... are probably going up next month! I told them (today as I told them yesterday) that I'm an investor and I don't make rushed decisions. Then I laughed at them (today as I did yesterday) as the sales man said 'yes I know truck sales are down, but we lose employee priceing next month. He walked RIGHT into it. I said "you lose employees next month if you don't sell me this truck!" I told him I'll call him back mid-week for his 'higher quote'.

$135 a week to rent a truck for the next 2 years. Not something I would look to do. I can think of better ways to spend almost $20 a day. PLUS insurance.
It's such a waste of money to change cars every 2-3 years. I'm a strong believer in buying a car that is a few years old and then keeping it for many years.
I hear you but I also hear my dad, who I just consulted.
He said if I buy a the Q now, then I finish paying it off in 3 years and viola! I'm now the proud owner of a .... nine year old car? He doesn't like it, I'm don't like it either. Not set on anything yet. Thankfully I'm in no rush. |
I am driving a 15 year old Explorer. The interior still looks very, very good. I had a Toyota sedan who's interior and exterior dies withina few years. Japanese paint sucks.
Where the dealerships offering any price incentives/offers to get you to buy? I am looking around for a replacement for my Explorer and will most likely buy another Explorer. It really is a good vehicle - a jack of all trades. |
Or save up your money now and pay cash in the future.
we have become so addicted to instant gratification that nobody knows how to save their money anymore (I'm as guilty as anyone and working on changing that habit) |
That is true. I still think it is a better plan. If you think you are going to want a new car every few years it makes sense for you. If you are a investor doesnt that sound like a bad investment? Buy the used car now, invest however much you would have spent on the lease into a car account. In a few years when you know what you want buy it outright new or used. |
+1, my SuperCrew will hit 216k miles shortly. The Ranger before that had 165k and easily had another 100k. The Mountaineer got to 180k when my wife traded it for her Camry. I'll buy a new car in August, and it would be a Ford if they were selling what I want. Chapperjoe, I intended to ask if you are a woman, but someone else more or less beat me to that on page 1. |

Um, speaking of retards, let's try looking at some facts. 2008 BMW X5 Specs from Edmunds Curb Weight: 4982 lbs. Horsepower: 260 hp 2008 Ford Edge Specs from Edmunds Curb Weight: 4288 lbs. Horsepower: 265 hp You might point out that the X5 has increased seating capacity (though with similar cargo room).... so here are the values for an X3. 2008 BMW X3 Specs from Edmunds Curb Weight: 4012 lbs. Horsepower: 260 hp So by "overweight, underpowered" what you really meant to say that it actually has an extra five ponies and weighs in similarly? While costing MUCH less? OK, that's what I thought you meant. |
This might make you happy, chapperjoe.
I would guess it's part of the headcount reduction though, as everyone loves the Flex. Also, it's hardly to dealers yet so I don't think we can say too much about its success (look at the Chrysler 300 - initially people were like WTF is this thing, then it sold well). FWIW, I like most people I know, hated it at first and now like it. It is a polarizing design though. |

I think cars are horrible investments, or else I would've bought already! |

The above are my thoughts, stated more directly. The Flex is seriously nice. See if the dealership will let you take one home for the weekend. |
I call it the ford living room.
but that's only on the outside. the interior is WAY too small for such a brick of an exterior. |
here's what I sent my guy- who tol dme prices are going up this month! - today:

I have several Fords,
A 2008 F-150 4X4, crew cap, 19-mpg A 2005 Excursion 4x4, v-10, 15-mpg A 2003 F-350 crew 4 4X4, diesel. 14.5-mpg A 1996 Bronco 5.8-L 4X4, 12-mpg I got the F-150 because I thought that it would do better on gas. I find that the smaller cab just does not feel right and the ride is not as good as the other three. Yes it gets a little better mileage but to me it is not worth it. I still drive the other three more often. In the hills the Bronco wins hands down. On the highway the Excursion is king. The Jacked up F-350 is probably the the best all around rig. For ride, towing and off roading. If I could get a reasonable price on the F-150 I would probably get rid of it. Seems like everyone has one to sell now. So look around I am sure you can get a real good deal on one. I would look at a used F-350 or F-250, I see several around that are in cherry condition and asking about half of what they cost a couple of years ago. A buyers market. |
Odd I was getting 13.5 city in my 4x2. |
Mostly Highway miles, I live in northern nevada and average at least 100-miles per day driving to work etc. Here we measure distance in hours not miles. Most of us commute to work over and hour each way. |
