Two Day Performance Carbine (16 hours, 500 rounds carbine, 100 rounds pistol)

Hosted by Southwest Technical College - Fennimore, WI

Performance on Demand Shooting

Two day performance carbine will show you how to run a carbine in a fight. This is an open-enrollment class, though some of what we cover will be geared towards law enforcement and deploying the patrol rifle in high-risk tactical situations. Students may be asked to show prior carbine training or experience (training, competition, etc) as this is not a beginner's carbine course.

We bring a minimum of 2-3 experienced instructors to every class to make sure our students get as much one on one time as possible. You will never have one instructor running a line of 15 students in our courses. You can learn techniques from a DVD, but having an instructor giving you individual attention is what you will find most beneficial in a training class.

Topics covered include:

-Rifle setup and deployment considerations – optics, lights, slings, etc

-Basic Rifle Marksmanship (stance, grip, natural point of aim, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press, and follow through)

-External ballistics zeroing

-Transitions to secondary weapon

-Reloads

-Cycle of operations

-Diagnosing and clearing type I & II malfunctions, stovepipes

-"Advanced" malfunctions (stuck case, charging handle impingement)

-One-handed reloads and malfunctions

-Close quarters battle

-Multiple threats and target transitions

-Shooting positions (traditional, modified, and barricade positions)

-Movement and shooting on the move

-Decision making under stress

-Communication and two-man tactics

-Critical thinking drills

Prerequisites: Students should be in good physical shape and be competent with the basic operation and shooting of the semi-automatic carbine

Equipment: Range gear, AR-15 (or similar semi-automatic rifle) semi-automatic rifle equipped with a tactical sling, with at least three magazines. Handgun with holster and spare magazine. 600 rifle rounds (no green tip, AP, tracer or steel core), 100 pistol rounds. We encourage our students to bring the gear they see themselves fighting in. Things like plate carriers, battle belts, and camelbacks are not required for this class - unless it's stuff you'll see yourself using. Feel free to bring what you would like, but when we are working on basic rifle marksmanship we will most likely be running as light as possible.
