We are running a two day Advanced Carbine & DMR course July 13-14 (Friday/Saturday). We will be shooting long distance with the carbine, and doing night fire, so for those reasons we are classifying this as an A course. If you have good equipment, solid/safe handling skills, and some experience running the carbine you will be fine.

The course is held at Mifflin County Sportsmen's Association, 400 Ellen Chapel Ln, Lewistown, PA

Round count will be 200-250 per day.

Lodging in the clubhouse (bring cot and sleeping bag) is available from the club for $10/night. The club also offers home cooked breakfast and lunch both days for $15 a day.

The course has two primary areas of focus:

1 - More advanced defensive application of the carbine at mid to longer distance with higher accuracy demand. This is an open-terrain and natural cover/concealment deployment focus rather than a CQB/Urban one.

2 - Effective use of a DMR type (semi-auto .223/.308) platform out to its maximum range.

Basic Equipment:

1 - Students are encouraged to bring both a carbine and a DMR type platform if they have them but only one is really necessary. A 3x minimum magnified optic or magnifier is recommended. Irons would not be appropriate.
2 - Several magazines for each rifle.
3 - NFA registered sound suppressors are welcomed.
4 - Sling on the rifle
5 - Standard range gear

Course fee is $325.00

The course format includes both classroom work and range time on both days, as well as organized night fire exercises using different lighting conditions. Specific areas we will pursue:

BRM Review
Ballistics and trajectory basics
Zeroing
Intermediate distance engagement techniques
Identifying and applying trajectory 'sweet spots'
Multiple targets Engagement planning & execution
Engaging targets in concealment or defilade
Unorthodox positions & prone variations
UKD - Unknown Distance shooting
Range Estimation
Low light - using white/ambient light
Low light - Backlit targets
Low light - Illuminated reticle
Low light - Green laser designator
Low light - NV - If you have NV of any kind, please do bring it. You will get a chance to use it
DMR - Considerations when moving the distance out

Targets will be a mix of paper, reactive and (mostly) steel. Engagement distances are equipment/student specific, but could go out to 1025Y.

Online Registration is required. Once you register an email (non-automated) with equipment req's and payment instructions will follow.

We hope to have you aboard with us. This course will be a good opportunity to not only define, but expand your capability with a carbine and a DMR platform.
