I can't stress how highly I recommend DARC for training courses after participating in the last TUSC. Their building block approach to drills and explaining the reasoning behind each step makes it so cave man simple anyone can pick it up. Rich has a gift for instructing and coupled with his real world experiences is a combination that can't be beat. Check out any of the DARC TUSC AARs for even better reviews.
I would love to be there because I know it would help improve my non-trained ass having someone point out how I'm making mistakes and ways to over come them, rather than sending rounds down a range by myself. Instead I'm stuck with weekend clinicals. I hope to make it sometime soon, hopefully within a year. |

The 20% discount for TUSC grads is not time nor is it course specific.
You can use it whenever and for any class you choose. ShadowAngel - congratulations, I'm just glad it's a girl. 0612Devil - they already think you are crazy. Hope you are handling the situation well. Clastac - email rcvd and responded to. Colt_sporter - go below deck and get some geedunk. Shooters101 - I already know you are going to eat this course up. Rayzar - I know this will be a busy year for you. Next semester you will get a chance to volunteer to be in one of our austere surgical programs with some of your classmates. |

I should have time on a computer tonight to write a more detailed AAR.
Rich is a natural teacher with both the knowledge and experience to ensure that the techniques he teaches work. He's not cocky, he won't brag about all the things he's done, its not a class where you pay to come worship him. Day 1 was almost all malfunctions drills. We took turns shooting and setting up malfunction drills for the shooter behind us. This way, when you picked up the next rifle, you didn't know what malfunction, if any, it would have. He teaches very fast techniques for clearing, as well as what's wrong (and the 'why') with "tap, rack, bang" From there we did poa/poi stuff, shooting with a dead optic, faster cqb shooting with irons. Then we went to braced shooting, learning not only different techniques for this, but leg positioning to protect major arteries. We did kneeling techniques also. Emphasis with all shooting was getting that shot off into the target FAST. From there we came back and did all the malfunction drills with essentially zero light. Then we did some very basic night shooting stuff. We ended early, about 2100. Day 2 in the next post. No room on mobile. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Day 2.
All 22s and handguns. First, let me give some props to the S&W M&P 15-22. 1600-1700 rounds fired, and only 1 or 2 ftfs, because it was dry. Day 2 we added moving while shooting. Day 1 we only did moving to a firing position. Moving left, moving right, moving forward, shooting your way to a firing position. Transitions, totally new way for me, but it works. Again though, rich can, and does, explain exactly why it works in real life. DARC is all about the "why". We learned fast tracking from target to target, then did it all over again at night. Day 3. Bring it all together into some bigger drills with a little competition. The first drill, start 50 meters from the target, 5 static firing positions, and 1 moving, ending at the target, return to starting position. Now do it 5 more times in a row, non stop. 6 and a half minutes worth of fun if you're good, ten if you're me. .
From there we did more drills designed to combine it all, and teach you to control your body to make 200 meter hits with your arms hurting, heart pounding and lungs going hard. A great time was had by all. I think we all agreed that the malfunction drills alone were worth the cost of tuition. Ill absolutely be back for the November TUSC. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I think there are others who will do the class description a better service than I can, so I will only post about my own humble opinions..... The class was very challenging, and a great environment to learn. All of the things that were taught there made sense. My classesmates were very cool, each one with their own perspectives and personalities, but all around a great bunch of folk. The instructors were truelly sick puppies, but provided excelllent guidance and motivation. As has been said before, knowing the why behind the how, is a very important part of understanding. This was always presented in each of the classes in a way that you could tell, was learned by having been there, not having read it. So, for AAR part 1, the gear: Gear that worked: ESSTAC rifle pouches w/kiwi's Maxpedition rifle and pistol magazine pouches Blackhawk patrol belt modified with a cobra buckle Blackhawk gloves Endeavour Stitchworks Cobra belt USGI suspenders Tactical Tailor X-harness Surefire 6p light Leatherman Surge YHM and Rock River AR-15's Glock 21 Safariland 6004 holster Black Dog 32 rd. .22 conversion magazines Federal .22lr bulk ammo Wolf WPA .223......yes, it worked well for class.. Black Hills .223...worked very well for extended distances.. NHMTG & Okay aluminum magazines Streamlight TLR-1 light Timberland boots Smartwool socks Magpul L-plates and cut down pulls Gear that did not work: CTC laser grips stianless steel C-products magazines What I am changing I am moving my rifle lights from 3 o'clock to 12. This may mean buying a new set of BUIS, but will be worth it after going through the transition drills. I have to find a more accesable place to put my Leatherman and Surfire. Around to the side of the back in a vertical pouch does not work for me. Overall, my gear worked well for the course. The CTC grips worked well on a static range, but the potential downside to them really became apparent on the range at night. The C-products magazines did add an additional twist to the malfunction guantlets. Part 2 to follow..... CT |

To continue that line of thinking:
I ran an eagle universal chest rig from skd, and the pouches were far too deep for fast reloads. +1 on the light at 12:00. No other way worked as well. My insight M3X will be traded for a tlr1s asap. My F93 stock will be traded for a sopmod or ctr/moe as well. My Aimpoint pro will go in favor for an H1. Front mbus will be gone for a non folding front sight. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
