Dry fire does 2 things.
1. It can teach you the intricacies of that gun's trigger pull. Training with a SIG double action trigger will teach you nothing about the XD trigger. It may make your trigger finger stronger, that's all. A single action trigger like the XD can be learned in 7 days doing an hour a day. 2. A complete dry fire routine can teach you drawing from a holster, index, sight picture, reloads, malfunction clearing, etc. Doing these drills with a different gun that has different grips and sights will not help you with the XD. None of this needs an authentic trigger pull. Steve Anderson's excellent dry fire book Refinement and Repetition has over 30 great dryfire drills, most of them have no trigger pulls. Learn the trigger by concentrating on THAT trigger. Learn to work the gun by working with THAT gun. If you want to learn your SIG, then train on the SIG. Gringop |
