A bit of a hike for you, but Bridgeton Township Sportsmen's Association in Upper Black Eddy, PA is holding one on November 6, 2011. I'm pumped- I haven't been to one since I was 16 years old. For those interested, here's the link:

Around here the local clubs hold 'em. Mostly as a fund raiser for lets say food banks or some such.
I've seen em where they have a metal plate with an 8" or so hole in it. You get paper target with the silhouette of a turkey on it, and its then taped to the back of the metal pate, turkey exposed. Shotgun only, #4-#7 bird shot. They count the number of perfs in the turkey silhouette to determine winners. Kinda neat idea I think. Umm, no AR work to my knowledge tho sorry. |

The Lions Club holds one just down the road from me. Use the link I have provided and select your State, select a letter for city to find a club and contact them for more information.
Lions Club You could also try the American Legion |

They have 'em all the time around here (southern Missouri), but I've never been to one. The most recent ad I saw for one had a rule I would have thought would go without mentioning: "No barrels longer than 48 inches." There's an equipment engineer in the building that does quite well at them. He enters the pistol division with some old black powder pistol which he uses rendered bear fat on to prevent multiple detonations.

They have one at the Lions Club in Bountiful utah. You do win a frozen turkey at this one. Sadly a bunch of dudes have their wives and daughters stand in line all day and keep them on the line so people there by themselves never get to shoot.

Here in W. MA, we still have them. Most are shotgun-only events, but one club runs one with a black powder rifle match, too.
I always went to the black powder match. Everyone gets a target, which changes every round, and the best shot wins a Keilbasa (Keilbasa shoot there, not Turkey shoot). I stopped going when they changed the rules. Now, instead of everyone paying $1, everyone shooting and the best shot wins, you can pay $1 and take unlimited shots. So, I pay $1 and have the best shot, everyone else keeps paying $1 per shot until their target looks like it was shot with buckshot and they finally beat me, and they win. I enjoyed it when there was some level of skill involved. Now, I just call it "shoot until you win". One guy was bragging that he won 7 out of 10 Keilbasas one day. Great, but the guy spent over $100 doing it! I guess it's better for the club, but it took all the fun out of it. |
