It's only a 164 round match if you take it out to 500. They have a 100 yard version as well, which I think will be the one that will be most popular. You can run it with .22s if you want, and it should still be fun. Again, the first time they actual run the thing, you have to expect. delays. Not to mention the electronic targets did add some time. I think with fine tuning, they can get it worked out. However, this match is made to be run at local clubs. So, the electronic targets will not be an issue; unless you have an awesome club than can afford them. I give the NRA (mainly Trey) an A+ for stepping outside the NRA box and creating a fun, tactical style match that ANYONE can shoot. Not just professional competitors. I mean, I am a total noob, and I was competitive in my class. Look at the winner of Tac. Optic, he's a young kid (15?), and it was his first match. He beat out everyone in his class; including his old man. I think you should shoot the match, before knocking it. ETA: Also, we only had 6 firing positions. I think we could have had more, maybe 10, and it would have gone much faster. I'm guessing the electronic targets had something to do with that. |

Hell yes I'm hooked! Not only did I get to hang out with a bunch of 3 gun champions that weekend but I was already in the process of putting my gear together based on recommendations from friend Taran Butler. Thanks to Taran, Dave's metal works, Ralph Arredondo and some guy in Hawaii from Gun Broker I now have a performance ready Benelli M1 Tactical shotgun. I haven't had one of those since I was a SWAT guy long ago. I also got to have Iain at my home for two solid days of training and armoring of several guns. After putting all the new products into the Benelli I took it back apart and over to H&M metal processing in Akron, OH where they put a perfect even coating of black nitrite on everything but the aluminum parts. Iain helped me set up my belt with accessories from Blade Tech and California Competition Works. A few hours working the reloads and I am feeling good about the Pro Am. I have 2 classes coming up over this weekend and next week and look forward to doing some live fire practice during lunch and after training days.
Oh yes, and getting pushed to third place at the NDM by my own son was a real treat. I too blew some rounds at the 400yrd distance but from kneeling. 3 shots off. Not from wind, just unsteady at 400. Prone was tight as hell. Looks like I need to work on positions from distance while in a hurry. Great job by Trey and all the NRA gang. Special thanks to FNH for the sponsoring and outfitting my boy with the winning SCAR 16. Chris |
