Everyone in our shooting club was surprised when I showed up to shoot 100 yard bench rest with a Stag Arms Model 6L. No one in our club had ever shot bench rest with an AR before and I could tell that a few were skeptical. I was shooting hand loads with 75 gn Hornady Match BTHP, 23.5 gn Varget and once fired Winchester brass. With these loads I am able to shoot 5 shot groups inside 1/2 moa at 100 yards very consistently. The rain stopped just in time for us to shoot and it was a bit windy. We shoot ten USBR 2 inch bulls at 100 yards. My front rest was too high even at its lowest setting so I decided to just shoot off sand bags and a rear bag. I started out by shooting a 4 on my first shot and it really lowered my confidence. I managed to shoot the other 9 targets fairly well except for a couple 6's. After the match everyone came over to see my target and score. I shot a 75. Most of the guys seemed surprised by my score. A few of the guys wouldn't even tell me their scores and a couple didn't even report them. I scored first place in the Varmint class and second place in the Factory class out of 10 shooters. I had a great time and I think I am hooked on it now. I know I can improve my score with a little practice. I just started reloading last week so I have a lot to learn in both reloading accurate ammo and competitive shooting. It was fun to show them all how accurate an AR can be and I look forward to doing it again.

Congratulations!!

I always liked to be the odd one out there when I was shooting on a trap league with a beat up goose gun around all the 6 digit trap guns.

I'm looking to get up to the point of competition at some point but right now the job won't let me have the time at home to even pull the rifles out of the vault.
