no vest. That way I can better feel the shot gun in the shoulder pocket. I do have a belt pouch and empty bag with a spare round pouch.

They're all more or less the same. You're basically paying for the style/color/name.

I prefer to shoot in just a t-shirt with a pouch for shells. I can shoot about 400 rounds in a t-shirt before the recoil starts to bother me.

This.

I usually go out in shorts if its hot, pants if its chilly, and a t-shirt or short sleaved polo. I shoot about 250 shells a morning (12 gauge) and have no issues.

Agreed, never used a vest and never plan to. I use a belt pouch and a hull bag on the opposite side. If shooting sporting clays where there is a walk between, I have a little ammo tote I carry the entire rounds shells in.

Just used a belt pouch the entire time I shot trap.

Some of the vests sold by Browning have an internal pocket sewn into the shoulder and they have a thin gel pad that slips into it. It is amazing how it speads the recoil and helps your shoulder. A good vest is at least $75. Do not be tempted to buy the $35 vest from discounters like cabelas. They look pretty good in the store, but in one year becomes a faded, frayed mess. I had that Browning vest for 10 years and it looked like new when I gave it to a friend. The Beretta vests are pretty good, but I think they cost $125 just because they say Beretta on them.

When I'm shooting trap to shoot trap, I just wear a belt pouch with an empty hull drop bag.

When pheasant season was coming along I would shoot in my hunting vest, as its good practice.

I don't use one. Maybe 25% of the regulars at my club do.
