Last year I attended the Shooter First Aid Training with Rockwell Tactical Group (RTG). The class lasted most of the day and was well worth the money. It was instructed by a US Army Special Forces combat medic. The first half of the day consisted mostly of classroom instruction regarding the MARCH protocol. We reviewed hemorrhage control, airway management, patient transport and stabilization.
We saw various methods to control bleeding, even severe hemorrhaging. We were able to train with different types of tourniquets and bandages. During the airway instruction, we were shown proper application of the Nasopharyngeal tube. The instructor even applied the tube to his own nasal passage to demonstrate how to properly insert it. We were also shown videos and had discussions on how to treat for tension pneumothorax. Towards the end of the day we were given exercises on how to approach the wounded patient, identify injuries and apply the correct treatment. It was incredible class and one that I personally learned an enormous amount. Although we discussed Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) at that time Rockwell was in the process of developing their own. Now finally, they offer one on their website. Mine came in today and I was extremely pleased with it's quality and content. Made to fit in a standard M4 mag pouch, the RTG IFAK has everything you need to save a life. Mine will probably end up in my HSGI soft taco pouch.
