I'm not talking about your drinking cup.

I've been doing Krav Maga for almost 2 years now and I've managed to avoid getting a truly solid shot to my balls for that entire time. I've definitely taken some grazing shots and many solid shots to the groin from the front, which are always stopped by my compression shorts/athletic cup combination. I've never been doubled over in pain.

Until yesterday.

My instructor called me to the front of the class to show a technique () and during the technique he gave me a nice snap kick to my balls, which went under my cup, connecting squarely with my nuts.

I doubled over.

This brings me to my question. What are you wearing? Everyone in my class wears an athletic cup like the kind you wore in little league, although most wear it in a pair of compression shorts. I'm thinking there's got to be something out there designed to protect you better.

I'm all ears.

Don't wear one in Judo, BJJ or sparring in Muay Thai.

I've heard great things about Diamond MMA cups and their videos are great.

Twins steel Muay thai in a set of 'cup-compression shorts'...when I was training or coaching MMA... Since I only coach boxing now, I wear a grant groin protector...

Anyone who doesnt wear a cup during fighting, BJJ or MT is 100% a dumbass.

BJJ: Takedowns, aggressive 'knee through' guard passes, scrambles, etc...

MT: yeah... getting wacked in the junk occurs all the time.

What young, brash, 'wanna be hardcore' kids/guys don't realize when they say "I don't wear a cup, I can handle the pain.", is that getting hit in the junk still hurts with a cup...

A cup just reduces the chance of physical damage occuring to the testicles, vessels, nerves, and tubes hooked up to them. Rupture of any of these can get really bad really fast...

Can't wear a cup at any IBJJF tournaments or for Judo. I don't know anyone who wears a cup for practice or competition. We just held a long three day seminar and nobody there, including any of the black belts or my Master, wore one.

Things have changed in the 3-4 years that I have been out of sport bjj then. We targeted people who didnt have cups and specifically did aggressive knee throughs.

I don't even want to know how you know nobody was wearing a cup. You're starting to sound like a wrestler with those kind of statements.

Regardless, you only have one pair. You should protect them. Or you can continue to play at 'being hardcore' I could care less about your nuts.

I found one during fencing that sits on the bones and muscle around the important bits, instead of just sitting on top of them.

Under Armor's cup looks like it might fit that way.
