That's a pretty good deal. I have a pair of their MMA shorts and have been very impressed with them. I couldn't squeeze into a A2 size if you paid me. I need an A4 according to this chart.

Size Chart
HeightWeight (lbs)Size
5'2"-5'5"110-140A-1
5'5"-5'9"140-170A-2
5'9"-6'1"170-200A-3
6'0"-6'4"200-250A-4
6'0"-6'4"225-275A-5
6'2"-6'6"250-300A-6

ETA: I just called them and all they have is the A2 size. One of you skinny guys better snap that up.

yeah I know

I'm right at the top of an A3 at 5' 10"/205lbs. My gi is fine but the sleeves are getting short, I definitely don't leave a lot of loose material to hold onto, I could probably stand an A4 top and A3 pants.

Stop drying it in the dryer. Let it hang dry.

I have the same trouble with my blue GI.

Ive never dried it in the dryer , hang dry only, Im just at the top of the size range and the gi itself is washed 2-3 times a week for the last 9 months or so.

Well here's a disappointing twist. Our class is pretty much out in the sticks and we combine the advanced and fundamentals classes since we don't have that many students. A full class is about 12 people, typically running about 6, Ive seen it with as few as two plus the instructor.

We just had two whites progress to blue and I just got an email saying that they are going to cut the class time in half with only blue belts and above welcome for the second half "unless" you are active military. I can understand the logic but I'm going to bitch about some, the only non active military white belts currently attending the class are myself (a navy vet with a history in wrestling) another guy who is recently retired Army (the door kicking type) and a female who is the soon to be spouse of an active duty army guy. Due to some people leaving, new people showing up and promotions we went from being white heavy to blue heavy.

It kind of pisses me off as it will only restrict us three from the second half and probably leave them short most of the time, I don't think someone thought this through very well. So my normally 2 hour Monday class becomes 1 hour, which is not enough time in my opinion. I'll go in and see wtf tonight.

I think it is important to have separate classes for beginner and "advanced" students. If you only have classes with both combined, the mid and higher level students end up spending the whole time teaching the very very basics to new students and their training suffers. I think for most new students an hour of instruction is great, you guys don't have open mat time afterwards or can't use a separate designated area to drill basics?

I agree if it was a normal class setup but we don't have that. We only currently have two real "beginners" that aren't .mil and I haven't seen either of them in the last month. Myself and the other guy easily train with the higher belts and our classes are very small. What pisses me off is that we went from a class typically being 2 blue/4 white to 4blue/2white and then they cut us two out of an hour of class when they could have easily kept it like it was. Remember that active duty white belts get a pass and we have some that are very very junior, like, no stripe white belts with no previous grappling history. So the senior guys will end up baby sitting those guys and the advanced white belts get cut out.

All but 1 of our current students that are white belts are either .mil or veterans with previous grappling experience, the total class is probably 80% vets/active duty.

Why would "active military" have anything to do with it?

Really think so?

My washer has a "sanitary" setting where it heats up the hot water. I use that, then hang dry to prevent shrinkage.

Yea, I've read from multiple sources that hot water wash and drying in high heat settings can kill MRSA/staph. But of course it will shrink the GI

I think the shop owner puts to much faith in the Army Combatives program, I have it from the guys themselves that it isn't all that, that's why they are in our BJJ class to start with.

eta: I guess it is assumed they are further advanced than similar and in some cases more senior belts due to that and therefore get a pass.

welp, our instructor put an over ride on that sillyness and I trained both classes, good thing for them as well because they needed the extra body to have 4 pairs rolling. Picked up another stripe last night as well which is encouraging coming fresh off a pair of shoulder injuries.

I tend to think any advantage you get from other training, be it army combatives, judo, HS wrestling or whatever, would quickly factor into the BJJ rank.

On a side note, I'm bummed. I am on travel to Norfolk VA for two weeks and will miss training. Last week I intended to train three times, but I could only make one class, the other two were preempted by work.

I checked out the local Gracie academy the other day. It was my first BJJ lesson with a gi. It was a lot of fun and there sure are a lot more things to look out for than rolling no gi.

I don't miss wearing a gi though, I have spent too much of my life in one. If you didn't have to tie the damn thing every four seconds I wouldn't mind it so much.

Been training BJJ for just over a year. It has changed my life started a out of shape 38 year old 6foot 2 fat ass at 275 pounds. Just competed at naga at 217 pounds and took home a silver medal. I am leaner and stronger and hope to compete again in september at 200 pounds. I prefer gi training but also train nogi. I recomend it to everyone.

Last night I rolled with a guy that weighs 317 pounds. I did well considering he is a lot better than me. I even swept him a couple of times. I learned very fast that I should never let him get me flat on my back.

It was fun. At 6'1" and 235 lbs, it's not very often I'm the fast little guy in fight. I kept taking his back like a spider monkey.

Do any of you guys do any Yoga? I've noticed the Yoga workout from my P90X workout has helped quite a bit with my BJJ and Judo. I was bored and on the road so I checked out a Yoga Class for the first time today.

My post from the P90X thread:

I did two 30 minute classes. It was all pretty familiar due to my experience with P90X, but there were a few different and harder poses. I was told I did very well, but hell they probably say that to everyone. They gave one girl a gift for her 100th class. This chick was like a Yoga black belt. I don't think she even broke a sweat, and had the best balance of anyone I have ever seen. It was nice getting a few pointers and the scenery was better than it is at my house. I did have to be a little more civil and not relax every muscle in my body like I do at home alone, if you get my drift.

One thing I really liked was the fact that they kept the little yoga room at 98 degrees. I bet I lost 5 pounds of water and Vietnamese soup. I had a good time, you guys should check it out some time.

I also watched The Avengers, I highly recomend that too.
