I use a G17, Rem 870, Ar15 as of right now.

Its got everything done too it you can do to a glock, extended mag release, light springs, new sights, 50 cent trigger job, etc.

i use my 19 for cc also so i will not be doing any major tigger jobs but i see a glock 17L or a glock 34 in hands in the near future. I will be dropping the ghost 2lbs trigger. I played with one at a gun show an man the follow up shoots got to be smooth with it.

A G17 is really all you need but its all personal preference. Try them all see which one you like. A G19 is also my carry gun and there is nothing wrong with using it in a 3-gun. Getting training with your carry gun is paramount. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. I compete a lot and every once in awhile I drag my G19 out even though I don't want too and I have a souped up G17 hell bent to win.

I also agree with you not wanting to put a trigger job in your carry gun. Good call. I keep my carry gun 100% stock except for sights.

I'm using my 16" BCM midlength, a G22 and a Rem 1100. When I started, I was using a Mossberg 500. Nothing wrong with using the gear you've got.

That said, I'm going to be upgrading my rifle to an 18" bbl, rifle length gas, 1-4x variable optic and then switch to a G34 for next season. Then I'll get around to upgrading the shotgun again at some point.

Hmm I'll post pics in the morning. I'd say it's a pretty effective combo.

There is no big difference in the 19 and 17.. Sight radius an cap... I might even buy another 19. An do work to that.... Maybe a gen 4. Forgot I had to work today ill post my pics soon. I have g code holster an ats battle belt coming in the mail......

That is incorrect a 19 is a compact and a 17 is a full size pistol. The 17 is bigger overall allowing for a better grip and it does have a longer sight radius.

If you are getting it for competition you should go for the 3rd gen seeing as how the aftermarket competition parts are not compatible with the 4th gens.

Nothing wrong with starting with a G19. You may even find that you shoot it better than a full size glock because of the grip hump location.

If a 17, 22, 34, or 35 is in your future, I would not start going crazy with the G19 internals. Good sights are more important than any other modification you can make to a stock glock. Buy some G17 mags, though.

Fiddling with Glock internals is easy to do, but tricky in how it effects your shooting. People like to swap connectors, springs, and trigger travel limiters around, and it is easy. However, spring and connector changes are tradeoffs that carry negative consequences for each improvement.

Most "competition spring kits" will have a reduced power striker spring, reduced trigger safety plunger spring, and increased power trigger spring. These will net you a lighter trigger, but with a longer reset and mushier break.

Measuring on a trigger scale, this is how your trigger weight will come out if you do not get into professional jobs or drop in trigger groups:

Stock, regular connector- 5.2-5.5 lbs after wearing in or minor polish job
Stock, "-" connector- ~4.5 lbs, slightly less after wearing in
Reduced striker, reduced trigger safety, increased trigger springs, "-" connector, polish contact surfaces- 3.1 lbs

The last option looks the best on paper, but for me, it is not the best. Out of the above, I shoot #2 the best at speed because it is lighter but maintains a somwhat (for a glock) crisp break and rapid reset. If you don't shoot off the reset, it may not be a big deal. Option #3 gets you a light pull, but the break is long, reset is long, and it does not feel very positive. Even with an overtravel limiting set screw, it is still slow and I find the break irritating.

As for G19 v G17 v G34, I have all three and compete with the G34 while carrying the G19. I shoot the 34 the best, the 19 is fastest up and from target to target, and the 17 occupies my safe YMMV

ETA:

18" bbl AR with fixed stock and 1-4x variable, Mossberg 930 field, and G34

I would get rid of that vertical grip. They are too slow when making transitions and can interfer with some of the more awkward shooting positions.

If you use it as a reference point rather than holding it like a beer can, it can actually be useful in terms of controlling the muzzle (IMHO).

Still, WI knows that I don't have 1 on my rifle nor do many 3 gunners and he def. has a point about it interfering with some props.

I'd say based on what I see, you really just need a nice free float handguard and muzzle break and you should be 3 gun ready with the rifle....as for the handgun....ehh, shoot it for a while and THEN decide what you really need to do to it...making drastically felt adjustments to an AR is much easier than to a sidearm in my experience
