Mods.  We need a Medical Training section here.

This came up after someone posted in GD asking what they can do to prepare for events like what happened in Paris, when they come to the US, or any other mass casualty events.

I would also like to reach out to the other medical professionals who have EMS, Trauma, Combat Medic, and related training and experience.

I think we could collectively develop a base curriculum that would help prepare Joe public for being able to deal with these events better than just running and screaming.

Initial ideas for an outline include:

* Pre-incident threat recognition and reporting
* Pre-incident threat interference, surveillance
* Post-incident egress
* Post-incident analysis and decision matrix
* Practical urban IFAK and vehicle-borne medic bags
* Rapid triage
* Scene hand-off and coordination with EMS
* EMS assist in basic first aid and patient management

Looking forward to your ideas.  Course Title would be Practical Mass Casualty Management for Citizen First Responders.

EMT here as well as ARC instructor for basically every class....this is a fantastic idea.

Wouldnt be to hard either to come up with a basic trauma reponse type course or general information for people too.

Another important topic to be added is triage as this is something that lay responders can for sure help with.

Edit: reading helps lol

Great idea, I think a med forum would be very valuable.

How many people died in these latest terrorist incidents in Paris, Mali, and San Bernardino due to preventable blood loss?

From battlefield injuries, preventable blood loss is one of the leading causes of death.

A forum, even one as active as this one loses synergy when it has too many subforums.

A good rule of thumb once you have reached as many subforums as we have here is that for every new subforum one pre-existing one would be merged with another.

STRATFOR: The Medical Response to Armed Assaults

By Scott Stewart

I discussed in the Dec. 3 Security Weekly how law enforcement agencies are changing their tactics to deal with armed assaults and how citizens can take steps to protect themselves in the event they encounter such a situation. But another critical component of the response to armed assaults lies in how to mitigate such attacks, an area to which the medical response is key. This includes the training given to law enforcement personnel, changes in the deployment of emergency medical service professionals and emergency room procedures. An additional lifesaving component comes in the form of new medical technologies made available to first responders and trauma centers.
