I'm heading to the range tomorrow with a friend and I was hoping you guys could recommend a few simple drills for us to practice.

He's a complete novice, having fired a total of maybe 20 rounds in his whole life, so I'll be teaching him the basics.

I'm asking more for myself though - I'm reasonably proficient, but I haven't taken any formal training classes yet. I just want to know a few things before I get to the range and start trying to make stuff up on the fly.

It's a private range, but we only have one backstop so we can do maybe 3-4 targets max, all at the same distance.

I thought the 1-5 drill would be fun to try, and I'll probably do some reload drills, but I don't really know anything to try aside from that.

Suggestions? These will be for rifle and pistol.

Do you have a shot timer (or at least a shot time app for your phone)?
