I am visiting NY state over the holiday and I would like to bring my Ruger American 308 rifle. It has a magazine capacity of 4 rounds. Is it legal for me to transport this rifle in my car in NY state? I'm not going to the city, just upstate.

Any transportation requirements for the rifle or ammo? Locked in separate cases required? Can magazines be loaded in a separate container?

Thank you in advance!

Yes i know it doesnt need to be locked but with being out state plates why give anyone more reason to look further if hes pulled over...

We are talking the nanny state here.. not real America.

There's a big old giant sticky at the top with info for non residents. The more we answer these questions the less fun this forum becomes

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I was in a hurry when I made the post and didn't think to check for stickies.

Have a great 4th of July all!
