Spent a lot of time on NY gun sites and there seems to be little agreement on what is legal and not.

It's more a case of everyone is doing it and nobody is getting arrested.

Now that an ejection port stripper clip is available, it seems to me the 10 round fixed mag is the way to go as all "evil" features may be kept.

"Fixing" the magazine is also an open item although the same company that sells the stripper clip also sell a gizmo that replaces the mag release that fixes the magazine which they claim has passed NY muster.

May be moving from a free state to NY.

Anyone "been there done that" ?

thanks!

What is this ejection port stripper clip you speak of & who sells them?

No reason to move to NYS.
Most of us who care about such things will be moving out eventually

I moved out last year I can think of very very few reasons for a free stater to move to New York :
Federal or military job transfer with no choice in the matter
Temporary relocation to care for sick or dying relative
There is no other valid reason I can think of

I really did believe that when I lived in NY, but the liberals out way everyone else at this point.. Heck upstate should be solid red and the reality is its not..

At this point its better to let it go into a Third World toilet mode and when it goes under.. Take the leaders and hold them accountable. aka Liberty tree.

The reality is that those leaders are doing what many state residents WANT them to do. There are just as many Downstate residents who think the SAFE act didn't go far enough as there are Upstate people opposed to its existence at all. Bottom line, you wont ever see the "liberty tree" outcome, and its a fantasy to even think it would go that way. You'd be hanging half of Downstates residents right along with them.

When the free stuff stops coming you will see how fast the FSA would turn on the liberals.

So being a pipe dream far from it.. unless on the Federal level you have a RINO or Liberal in office at the time of the incident.

That's where you are wrong, they are the enemy in every sense, and as much of an enemy as the Germans or Japanese in WWII.

They want to destroy this country, and would happily imprison or kill anyone who doesn't follow their Socialist manifesto, if they could. Deny those facts at your peril.

ETA Your attitude is like the White Russians saying, "Oh, those Reds, they are just fellow citizens with different political views"....How'd it work out for them?

It's easier to oppose someone if you strip them of their humanity.

Meh, not my relatives, and I don't care if it was my next door neighbor, I have no problem with enemy recognition....

Your enemy is your enemy whether he lives next door, or in a country over the sea....

You seem to forget the Civil War which pitted neighbor against neighbor, and brother against brother....

Just this morning we have had a liberal/dem shitbag asking if it was the republican baseball team practicing, and when that was confirmed, he opened fire....sounds like the left wants to kick this thing off.

Of course you reside in a state where the elected reps and their constituents decided to make ordinary citizens into criminals because they owned something that was perfectly legal one day, and illegal the next, because they don't want the people to have them. And you have stated you would destroy the lives of said citizens, because the law is the law....

To the original point....I have always thought the fixed mag option was best, as then you could have every "evil" feature on it, and that would help piss off the libs.

There was a company, Dark Star IIRC that were making some nice fixed mag lowers and guns...you had to literally completely disassemble the gun including the buffer tube, etc to get access to the screw that fixed the mag, no way was the mag coming out unless the gun was in pieces.

The other option I liked was building a gun with no gas tube, essentially making it a single shot, manually loaded gun...

The best option is not to reside in NYS unfortunately....the Free World is a whole 'nother world, that is for sure.....miss my friends, and family, miss the trout streams, miss good wings, but not much else!

When "neighbors, coworkers and relatives" actively seek to usurp constitutional rights and punish those who exercise them they no longer any of these things.  If what I've read is true and over 1M New York residents apparently declined to "register" whatever it is you label an 'assault' weapon then how and why such blatantly unconstitutional laws still tolerated? If there are indeed "1 million" or so it would seem their voice is or at should be quite powerful.

It's Dark Storm. I have 1 of their fixed mag ARs. I'm not even going to mess around with trying to remove the mag. You'd have to disassemble everything (the lower doesn't even have a mark or anything for a mag release either). Reloading isn't bad, just annoying. You pull the rear take down pin, flip it open on the front and top load. You can buy the mean arms reloader that's essentially a stripper clip for the ejection port (for $40 no thanks...), or now there's a device that lets you use stripper clips to load the mag (for $25, I'll take it). With the stripper clip you still have to pull the rear take down pin, but at least you can go down to the range with a few hundred rounds on clips and reload in a halfway decent time.

Unfortunately until government changes, we're pretty screwed. Too many people live in fear here and don't listen to reason (not even bringing left vs right wing in because it's not always just the liberals. That's what screws up government anyway, nobody likes to agree on anything or even try to find a middle ground).

OP, unless you're going to be LE, fixed mag or featureless (let's be honest that kills the point of owning an AR, might as well build a nice hunting rifle then...) is the best bet. The problem we really have is that the safe act was passed so quickly that it doesn't define a lot of what it bans. There's too much ambiguity to it...

Do you really think that's likely to happen? I doubt it. Too many people here only care about themselves. If they aren't the least bit interested and it has no real impact on them, they don't care.

In today's society? Not yet. Our forefathers, however, would have already been up in arms. Literally.  Wouldn't take much to change things. A few thousand could make a huge difference.  But, no, everyone is afraid of the emperor's praetorian guard, who in reality are limited in numbers.

Personally I think anyone who tries to limit how well I am able defend mine and my family's lives just because they don't think it's necessary, is an enemy plain and simple.

And from my experience with anti gunners here they are rabid folks who hate the idea of guns and gun owners so much they start foaming at the mouth when the subject comes up.  (lifelong resident).  So agreeing to disagree and all just getting along isn't really an option in current polarized political climate of the real world.

They may be neighbors, co-workers and even family, but if they're trying to limit my rights as a free citizen then I see them no differently as I do a foreign combatant.
