http://www.nbcnewyork.com/investigations/Ed-Mangano-Nassau-County-Corruption-Related-Charge-Arrest-396983451.html

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano is expected to be charged as early as Thursday on federal corruption-related matters, according to sources familiar with the case. For more than a year, questions have swirled about the 54-year-old Mangano's ties to businessman Harendra Singh and whether Mangano accepted free vacations from the restaurant owner in exchange for helping him with business deals.

We can only hope that it also leads to indictments in Oyster Bay, which is also intimately tied to the Singh scandal, and maybe knock out the corrupt Republican machine here. Unfortunately the Democrats aren't any better. They just did not have the lock on power that the Republicans here had and abused. The one brief period where they did have majority rule, they started rewarding their contributors too.

The list of corrupt pols is endless.

I wonder if a guy I know is sweating right now. Mangano gave him a sweetheart county job in exchange for past support when he was running for re-election.

It is a great day indeed  For those upstaters wondering what the big deal is about a simple town supervisor, the town's of Oyster Bay and Hempstead (which in and of themselves are larger entities than many upstate counties and Republican leader Joe Mondello is from Hempstead Town) have been the farm team for the Nassau Republican's for what seems like forever.  It is those Republican's who have pretty much made the whole state party what it is now and who made sure it was a downstate Senator who got the leadership job instead of an upstate Senator.  While a fish may rot from the head down, it is these low level politicians that have done their part to make taxes and debt unbearable and who have promoted the environment that allows all this corruption to exist all the way up to the top.  A corruption sweep of Long Island county executives, county legislators, town supervisors, town councilpersons and commissioners, water district commissioners, fire district commissioners, sewer district commissioners, judges, police chiefs, DA's and ADA's would probably fill the Federal Bureau of Prisons to over capacity.  That is not to say there are not some good leaders here but they seem to be outnumbered by those that have chosen to use their positions to enrich themselves, their families and their friends on the backs of the taxpayers.

UPDATE: I read the 20 page U.S. Court indictment in PDF format.  Makes you just want to vomit when you see how the politicians treat us.  The financial rape of the taxpayers is disgusting but not unique.  All to help a few pals.

Hope K. Rice is next, and I hope all of them get bowel cancer AFTER they begin serving their felony sentences, with none of this appeals and deferred sentencing bullshit.

That district flipped in 1996, when Dan Frisa lost because of his opposition to the Federal AWB, and the Republican's have never been able to put up a serious challenger since then.  Plus with all the Republican malfeasance fostered by the Mondello Republican machine over the years, their brand is now heavily damaged here on LI.  Like any political party, they were running things here for so long that a sense of entitlement and invulnerability took over.  It is yet another good reason for term limits as it stops these lifetime peerages from being created.  The other problem for the Republican's is the Democrat's field young energetic candidates and the Republican's have tended to raid the local nursing homes, though has changed a bit lately.  A 75 year old incumbent does not connect with the younger millennial voters as a 35-45 year old challenger.  There was an exception with the young Republican Senator Michael Venditto in the 8th Senate disctrict.  However he is now in danger of losing because his last name is now toxic due to the arrest of his father and he is tied to the "machine".

Now, this pic is funny as hell with his new problems.

From http://www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/edward-mangano-took-17-007-pay-raise-1.12501005

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano speaks about the disputed assessment fund on Monday, April 18, 2016, in Mineola. Behind him is a quote from President Ronald Reagan which says, "The problem is not that people are taxed too little, the problem is that government spends too much." Photo Credit: Howard Schnapp

"Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, now facing federal corruption charges, took a $17,007 annual pay raise in July in the midst of the county’s ongoing budget crisis.

The increase brings Mangano’s 2017 annual pay to $191,621 — higher than Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s $187,000 and more than Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s $179,000 salary."

The campaign was pulled yesterday.  No one was really sure if it was for real or a joke.  It was rumored to have been started by a county employee.

If it had reached its goal, that would have been a tidy $240,000 to GoFundMe.com.

What?  They got $100 to GoFundMe for "Justice"?    Good lord, it probably costs more than that to hang somebody, and certainly if a guillotine is used the clean-up will be more than that!
